I decided to replace the lock nuts with standard nuts for a planned trip. Now in hind site a good idea
Got the last wheel and stripped the lock nut completely I had a puncture a while back and guessing the guys at TWT over torqued the locking nut.
Any suggestions on how to remove the $@$@# thing?

Go to an ATS or similar tyre dealer - they have a special too that has a reverse thread on it - they jam it on and wizz away with the airgun and it grabs the nut and undoes it - completely destroys it too D4 SDV6 HSE

I think I remember a post I did on this some time ago . Heres a method I tried worked on a couple of nuts but had to get last one burnt off.
Remove all nuts from wheel sounds mad but it worked for me .. now drive the car around slowly if its on the front wheel move the steering wheel left and right as you drive it can take up to 10 minutes but if you do it right and long enough the lock nut should crack or break allowing you to remove it. Be careful tho and make sure you drive slowly when doing it.
Best of luck I know how you feel Googsy

Yikees! The part where I am supposed to drive with only the lock nut seems a bit scary!
Googsy, I did find your post.... I am heading down the same road it seems.
What I am thinking is
1. Cut of the swivviling head, with rough cuts.
2. Fille the key with Pratley Steel Bond (Or similer)
3. Force the key onto the nut as per AndrewS's comment in your post.
4. Remove the nut
5. Replace with normal nut
5. Live happily ever after
Comments ???

When you have cut the locking part off, with the other nuts on and tight, hit the remains of the locking nut hard (on its end) with a club hammer. Then proceed as per your plan. This is a good tip for all seized nuts and studs, it helps to release the bond between the threads of the nut and stud.
(This is assuming the nut is still longer than the stud after you have removed the locking part)
Or better still get the tool:-

Its not as bad as it sounds Discowex on here witnessed it and we did throw the car round quite a bit it was the rear one we couldnt get off however. You could try driving on it and then checking to see if nut loosens sufficiently for you to remove it thats what happened with mine .It works better for front wheels. There are special tools and some of the tyre companies had these but they wouldnt work on mine. Burning off with a carefully controlled blowtorch may be only option. Googsy

I'd try giving it some heat before the more drastic methods. Andrew

Thanks for the moral support! Much Appreciated. I ended up settling for a beer and taking the rest of day of spending time with the little one.
Will carry on either tomorrow or Wednesday. I am definitely going to PM you tomorrow for some final advice on driving with only the lock nu. I have been thinking about it, and there is logic in it.....
Enjoy!

When you say you stripped the lock nut, do you mean the castleations are all chewed up ?
I thought mine was totally knackered a while back, on close inspection the outer cover of the locking nut had slipped round on the nut, gentle tapping with a hole punch soon got everything back in line and the key slotted back over perfectly. "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Yippee
Eventually I got the locknut of and are now running on standard nuts all around.
I used a chissel to take of the front rotating portion, Got a little bit of damage to the rim, but will swop it with the spare wheel later.
I then took a 25mm socket and hammered that onto the remaining portion and off it came, first try.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
After all the other comments and post regarding replacing the lock nuts standard nuts, for sure!!!!
