looks like I'm going to have buy another set of these - the first lot got replaced under warranty (but that's a distant memory now), so before forking out £30+ on a set of new ones I was wondering if some clever sole has come up with an alternative.
Thanks,

No, they're are nor snapped, but stop retracting properly and if you've too quick they bunckle at the last minute and then you end up with a kink in them which never straightens properly.
Too be honest, I think it's down to the dirt and dog hairs getting into the pulleys and clogging things - but I've never taken them apart and so don't know how easy it is to do a bit of regular cleaning/lubrication
That said - I'll soon find out when I replace themLRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I've never had a problem with mine, and my boot had had some crap in it over the years. Never had a dog in there though Can't you just oil them or something?
Oil the dog - interesting Idea

Yes, that's what I intend to do when I've fitted the new ones - lubricate the pulleys, not the dog that is - LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

One of mine was kinked when I took delivery.
The cable had been looped over the locking pin and pinched .
Tech said the spring tension was not too good, but not responsible for the problem.
Apparently could be dismantled and rewound up , but warranty replacement was the go.
When you get new ones, wind them up a few turns.
Lube will attract dirt.
