Eastnor

Did the Eastnor thing yesterday and it was amazing to drive a manual DISCO3 TDV6 up and down some VERY rutted and pot holed tracks with plenty of chocolate moose mud/water troughs.

Car didn't struggle once.

What was impressive was that this is all done on standard Goodyear Wrangler tyres as fitted on my own car.

Only change to the vehicle was the removal of the front towing point cover on the front bumper. Kinda made it look angrier too... shame the finishing around the edges are not to good as I'd leave it off Wink

At first I could not imagine the car having the ground clearance for most of the holes and ruts. But as I found out... if you are travelling at an appropriate speed the suspension has time to react and just pushes the wheels down an amazing distance.

Then the self levelling on the car keeps the body raised up... very impressive.

I must say the instructor was very good. Just the right amount of instruction leaving the driver to feel his way through and think. Rather than being told step by step what to do. A good balance.

Only bad point... it lasted just a few hours and I could have spent days driving around the grounds !

Simon,

That sounds like it was good fun.

Interesting what you say about the suspension and the ground clearance.

Makes me wonder whether I could have made it through the deep rut on the greenlane at the weekend instead of scratching my car.

See here.

Cheers

Well I drove through some VERY deep ruts that I was convinced we would hit the chassis on... but no it coped no problem.

I got out the car once (with great difficulty as the doors are VERY heavy) when it was leaning over (passenger side lower than drivers side) to clear some branches off the track. I looked at the rear wheel arch and was gob-smacked at the air between the top of the tire and the wheel arch.

Looked like a good 12" plus from what I can estimate from memory !
