In this credit crunch...
...when nobody is buying cars (nevermind 4x4s), what do you think is the very maximum one could squeeze out of the seller of the below vehicle? Do you think it would be possible to haggle him down a bit?
(PS. the whole idea of an old Auto Freelander fell through a little while ago when we had to tighten our belts a bit - but now that 4x4 prices appear to be plumetting I've started to wonder again... )2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

If I wanted one (which I certainly don't) I'd go to £2500.
Heading for 7 years old, low mileage and one owner. Everything simply waiting to go wrong with it. I broke two of those things on a single day out with LR

I'd go into negotiations at £4,250 with a top limit of £4,500.Arctic Frost RR Sport. TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Tow pack, PTI, Privacy Glass, Tasmods, Mudflaps & a RRSport umbrella in the boot.

Chris, last week, one of the young lads who helps on the game shoot bought a 51 plate F'lander TD4 ES 5dr in silver with 40K miles , A-bar thingy and lamp guards for £3.5K. I would have thought £4250 would be top money for it this one.

JMC, I think it's subjective... My uncle owned 3 Freelanders (a 1.8 3 door, 5 door and a Td4) between 2000 and 2007 and never once had to take it to the garage other than for servicing
Plus, the Modus has cost us £600 in the last month alone.
Thus wondering how minimal the gap between Modus sale price and Freelander purchase price could be compressed to...
Thanks TB and Snowy - that's encouraging. However if I were to p/x the Modus I could foresee them simply devaluing that..

Cars do this from time to time. Take a trip to one of the markets to realise the true value of a vehicle. The figure I suggested for the FL is probably close to what the car actually owes the seller. He is in business to make money and I'm not knocking that. Just wouldn't want to see a young'un get drawn into the cycle of 'just about affording something' which the previous generation has allowed to get ludicrously out of hand.
If the modus has cost £600 this month, then that's £600 that it probably won't cost next month. If you're unlucky, you could take the FL to Keilder and end-up with bills like £2-£3k just to be able to get it back to Queensferry Rd
At 17, I 'invested' £2k into a MkII Escort which subsequently saw £50 at a scrapyard within 6 months.

Had a couple of emails / PM's beginning with the same line as this thread title...... needless to say the response wasn't as expected IMO the best cure for the current climate is 'business as usual'

I just got a 52 plate ES 3dr Freelander 90k for £3.5k, Black with chrome bits bolted to it.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I think it would depend on the value for your car, it's the cost to change which counts. I had a brand new 2001 TD4 Freelander and the engine is great (out of the 3 series BMW), I think 2002 onwards they had the black bumpers and the not so Fisher Price interior colours, a huge improvement in my opinion. I bought the last of the old interior and regretted it. The fuel burning heater was removed with the new look and replaced with a eletric heater supplement
I actually like it as a car and fuel economy was OK.
As Ian said the more people who don't do things normally the worse this economic situation will get. I don't mean go mad, but holding back will just stall everything.

It's not that deep... It really is as simple as we'd prefer a Freelander to a Modus if money allowed
Thanks for the feedback guys. Doubt anything will change but we'll play it by ear. Modus is valued at just over £3k however it's a lot better than that... as JMC points out that £600 could be her sorted for good (other than the stalling in neutral/low revs which remains unresolved) and it might be a shame to lose an otherwise excellent car 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

hey Cy, there are loads of deals out there to be had,
It all depends upon what your looking for, I remember going to Bristol from Glasgow just to pick up my 1st ''boy racer'' car.
As has been said before if your going in with a reasonable trade-in and a handful of cash then you'll prob get a deal in this current climate. It would be cool if you'd make it to Keilder in a set of LR wheelsIf in doubt............flat out.
