Buyers Guide - I cant see one! |
|
Hi, first post so be gentle!
A bit about me first - James, 24 from Lincs. Currently own a Mitsubishi Evo 8 MR and a Discovery 300TDi, but looking to sell both and possibly buy a Disco 3!
Had a quick look around the site and couldnt see a buyers guide anywhere, so if there is one could someone post a link to it for me please?
The forum looks full of information, which is always good so I'll make sure I search before asking too many questions!
cheers, James

Hi James, and welcome to the mad house.
There isnt a buyers guide as such, just loads of info and opinion, as you would sort of expect when it comes to a bunch of landy owners. Everyone will have a view as to what to buy, which models they prefer. Saying that, it might be worth us getting a guide together, with model year specs, dates of updates/spec changes, and stuff to look out for that affects a particular model/year.
Any volunteers?

Welcome James,
As Al says there is no guide just lots of opinions, It's best to have a look at the LR website with all the different models and see which suits you best. If you have any queries or you know what you want post it and you never know someone may have the answers and you could find what you want on the forum.

Hoping I'm not tempting fate now, but I bought a 54 plate SE at easter and haven't had any concerns really. Good service history is one to check for, that should help.

cheers for the replies so far!
Looking for:
Budget - £15K
Leather
Sat Nav
7 seats
Black/ Grey (white would be nice, but the only one I have seen is a £15000 - 212K miler!
Any accessories that some love and some hate (fog lamps, side steps, A bar etc) would be nice, not essential
Someone who will take my Evo in P/X (its very nice )
As for the buyers guide, it was more a "what to look out for" than a specs list - I know the general things to look for on all vehicles, but obviously this is a specialist vehicle and has so much electronic equipment on it that it would be useful to know what to look for and how to test certain items on the vehicle - like the air suspension for example, I wouldn't want to be fooled into thinking it was working properly when it wasn't!

Bump on this one -
Surely someone can say
"this is how to test the air suspension properly"
"this is how to test the terrain response"
"this is what to listen for in the drivetrain"
etc etc?

Air suspension can be tested with the button, access mode, road height, and off road height. Test that a few times will also highlight any problems with compressor. DOnt be alarmed when the front lifts slowly as the air will run short if you do it too many times.
Terrain response canny really be tested unless off road, and is all linked to the ECU and sensors in the hubs, but if it was'nt working the info screen would say "Special Programmes Not Available", which also includes the HDC and suspension
Drivetrain is an obvious check, tyre wear, alignment 4 way. Get under the D3 checking for leaks on the driveshafts, splits on the CV boots, and taking for a test drive will highlight knocks when you accelerrate hard and immediately back off.
Othe rthan that, press every button, fiddle every knob, and check the roof. ALot of owners dont realise how high they are and clip height barriers

I took mine for a 20 mile test drive.. checked for exesive turbo lag... any black smoke... steering "feel".. all the usual things you check when buying any car.
I tried a D2 (hated the autobox) and feel... hense went for a manual D3.. but i've heard the auto D3's a better ship than the auto D2. 57 RRS TDV8
