I think Fiat are building the new Ka for Ford, too. All of the car manufacturers are banding together.

Its the same platform on the ford ka (new one, as seen in Bond movie) and the Fiat 500, different engine and other bits, its a joint venture.

Its been like this for ages, my Alfa GT Diesel engine has a bottom half built by GM, its the same as the Saab 1.9 bottom end thats also a GM unit and I think its used in the Vauxhall Signum as well. The Alfa top half and head means mine goes better though Wink

They car manufacturers all started making these alliances a few years back to save on development costs of low volume models initially, but later with more mainstream models.

I think the exception is VW, who with Skoda, Seat, VW, Audi etc have enough models in their own group to share parts between! (Leon is a Golf GTI for example...)

EDIT: There is a woman on BBC2 at the moment saying that its the 6 month in a row where total car sales are down, the only thing up on last year is small fuel efficient city cars...

The sales for the D3 V8 should be up then too. It might not be small but it gets through lots off fuel very efficient when I drive in the city. Whistle
