The days of the rush hour starting at 7am are long gone... The main routes are pretty busy now even at 5am!
Big Cry
Haven't they got this the wrong way round? shouldn't we be encouraging big trucks to use the roads at night?

I think one of my colleges is a founder member of the Middle Lane Owners Club. (Or are they CLODS?? - Centre Lane Only Driving Sods)
According to his other half he rarely deviates from the middle lane, gets very angry if he has to slow down because the lorry in front is doing 56, rather than his habitual 63.47 despite there being an empty 3rd (or even 4th) lane. I had the misfortune to have to travel with him not too long ago, it was an experience I'm not about to repeat. In a journey of about a hundred miles we were cut up by so many cars and vans I lost count after the first 30 miles, had to bake hard a dozen or more times. Eventually he decided to leave the middle lane and stop at a services - his mistake, and my relief - his car wouldn't re-start and a visit from the AA proclaimed it not fit to continue the journey, so we had to complete the outward journey in the cab of their yellow lorry.... On the return journey I had to drive - the hire company said he was too high a risk (11 points - for speeding and jumping red lights!!!!!!). Nice relaxing journey for me, all three lanes in use, no hard braking, no being cut up (but a few cutting ups for hogging the middle lane), and I gave him the benefit of a running commentary for the whole 107 minutes until I dropped him off.....
CLODS should pay massive road tax, have their vehicles painted garish colours, and only be allowed to drive on the motorways between 10:00 and 10:30 when there is a "Q" in the day and never when there is a "Y". That should keep them out of the way.

OK, so instead of making the situation worse, lets make the trucks quieter!
(How many Prius engines would it take to pull 40 tons?)

In Oz, do they still have "passing" law, which I think meant you could get fined if you stayed in an overtaking lane but were NOT passing another vehicle. Sounded OK to me.
