Depending on which model you get, you probably won't even need the velcro.....there's usually just enough space to wedge the base unit between the seat and cubby box as Ken says.
I had mine here, but then moved it to the centre cubby box as per CFB - you'll rarely need to see/touch the unit once you're up and running. A much cleaner install and invisible once parked up (if you remove the antena that is )2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Wedgy gets my vote...be carefull if you buy a new midland though....the writing off the unit has now printed the side of the seat
Put a cloth or something between the unit and the seat for good measure "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

Can you give me some advice on how to pick up power? If I buy a Midland unit, do I have to tap into a power cable somewhere or can I run it off one of the cigarette sockets? It's only going to be in the car when we go off-road, so easy fitting and removing will be important. Perhaps a hand-held or PMR will be better? Your thoughts much appreciated.
Thanks,
NJF

Uncle Ray is on the Sale again, thought you had 2 ready, you must have sold loads since
My Midland Multi 78 ( install In my Gallery), is powered via the rear of armrest Power socket. I installed mine in the Arm rest glove box and fits spot on, the lid even shuts with the mic still screwed on.
I removed my center box before installing so I could cut access for wires, not wise in situ as there is wires under it.

Thanks, RLD. I do, but I have no rack and no rails. I'll have to go with a mag mount to start with. It's the wife's car, so I'll have to wait until next year to buy my own. That, and a lack of time and too much distance from the folks on this site who specialise in fixing these things, is why I'm looking for the easy option.
The good news is that my current car's lease ends a couple of months after the new 3-litre TDV6 becomes available.
no but i am doing some more Home of RLD Hidden winch mounts Spare wheel Locks Trailer Body Fabrication ray@rld-tech.co.uk D3/4 sump plates MY 14 sump plates and the Discovery Sport wheel protectors Discovery 5 wheel locks
