If the vehicle is still under warranty then I would check with the service department to ensure that an non-OEM battery is acceptable as a primary battery. Wink

Bornidle - remember that all this talk of using an Optima Yellow Top is for a auxilliary (2nd) battery only. It is not for use as a main (cranking) battery.

That said, you can use the 2nd battery in an emergency, but it should not be used as a replacement for your single OEM battery.

Look at the red top which may be more suitable. TBH I wouldn't really bother trying to fit a higher capacity battery as your main cranking battery - the OEM size works well and if you need more juice for gadgets, then stick a second battery in as well.

Hi Bornidle, no matter what type of battery you choose, the amount of driving time is also a factor to whether your new battery is going to last any longer than the one you have now.

You say you drive once a week, just how long do you drive for when you do drive?

Mate, you need to invest in a battery charger, that is just nowhere near enough driving time and I’m surprised your last battery lasted as long as it did.

An AGM battery would, under normal circumstances, help as the high charging capacity of the D3’s alternator could be advantageous BUT the D3 also has the ability to charge at very low voltages, EG 13.2 volts which would slow the charging of even an AGM battery plus, and this is probably more important, the D3’s electrics are set up to optimise the use of one type of battery and fitting some other type may actually make your battery problems worse.

I personally think the battery charge option is probably your best bet.

ENT had his battery checked the other day while i was with him only to find he had a duff cell ..luckily he has a sencond battery fitted (yellow top optima) which was helping to start the car .

He was quoted any were from £100 -cheap make - £150 for a Varta battery.

We took it straight to the dealers who changed it there and then ( although it did take them an hour and 20 mins Shocked )

Anyway battery guy did say the red top should be fine ( as its a cranking battery - very powerful ) at about £160.
