EPB failure - why me...................?

Yup - the dreaded EPB failure thing has struck.

Started screaming about 2 weeks ago - refused to release, with all the warnings yesterday and this morning released when I removed my foot off the brake as opposed to when pressing accelerator.

So I feel a software download coming Whistle

The screaming thing can be a nice anti-hijacking feature - scared the sh Censored t out of me Exclamation

Thought the D3 will be quite boring compared to the Defender which needs a lot of TLC, but seems that it will soon trade places Big Cry
Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Defender TD5 110 CSW '00. "With everything"

Deon

I had that too (scared the Censored out of me), but just needed to have the EPB cleaned and tension reset. Was done at no cost.

I assume you are aware of the manual override to release the EPB ? It is in the manual, as I found out once I got home Embarassed To my embarrasment , I had to wait a good 30 minutes before it released itself. Kept everyone on the trail up waiting for me Shocked Knowing that I can override what is a common problem while offroad does give me more peace of mind Thumbs Up
What do you mean it won't go there ?

Had that one too, started without warning during our river trip and even the manual override did not release the brake….
Released it self after I drove forward and backwards ploughing the rear wheels into the sand.
Biggest problem was that I had the auto EPB activated – engaging the PB every time you switch the vehicle off…
Back to LR next week…

How do you activate/deactivate the automatic park brake - need to make sure that I do not do this inadvertently.

There is no activate / de-activate option.

What you can do however is hold the EPB switch down (ie to release it) as you switch off the engine. This will deactivate the EPB until you next switch off. ie... you will need to hold the EPB switch down each time so it doesn't automatically engage.

Its in the book.

Assuming its the same for manual and automatic gearboxes of course Wink

It will still auto engage at engine off. Just not auto release on drive away.

Can only be done by the stealers even on the S model

Thanks TiaanS, at least its one more thing that only the steelers can activate - no chance of inadvertingly doing it.
