Decided to pick the car up from the stealer's as they couldn't give me a definite answer to whats wrong, so I'm going to try a couple of things myself first and if they don't work

pound to a pinch of shyte it'll be your problem Glynne .Get yourself two new EGR gaskets on Monday , only a few pence each. When I was doing mine I put on a squeeze of liquid sealant on each aswell.

Took the butterfly out (took some tugging on) and all went well, then took the egr pipes off but to my surprise there were no gaskets, and before you ask , no they didn't fall off.
So to anyone else that has done this did yours have gaskets
The other thing is that the sooty shyte around the pipe didn't seem to have come from the joint as it looked to clean and shiny so I'm lost as to where the soot is coming from. With the engine running there is no sign of it either

Clean it up and then see if the problem persists , just to rule it out.The gaskets are paper thin plastic Glynne blue ISTR and I didnt think I had them myself until I peeled them from thr face of the EG inlet pipe.

I will give it ago and see whats what, but as for the gaskets there was definitely none as the to surfaces where metallic and shiny so it got my terminal blade screwdriver and gave a little tickle just to prove to myself.

Is it worth running on BP Ultimate / Shell V Power and the like occasionally to clean up this sort of thing. Otherwise I have heard that certain remap tunes shut the egr off more frequently. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Just beware Glynne that by blocking the EGR's the diagnostics readouts will be out of kilter.I'm basing this on past experience as I too was told I needed two new EGR Valves and a new Turbo.I had already told the service tech that I had the EGR's blanked so he wasn't shocked to see what the diagnosis was.In essence the computer thought because of the readings ( false as they were) the fix was new Turbo etc etc. Turns out two new clips on the EG inlet pipes was all thatwas needed , cost a few pence versus the thousands I was told it was going to cost
Best advice above is try somewhere else for a second opinion. But I still think that its the Exhaust thats pumping the shyte into your engine bay.
Good luck

Cheers Discowex
I'm going to give this a go, then if no luck i will be going to an independent land rover garage, as Ive had much higher service from them in the past.
