I understand the reasoning behind your thoughts Ringoosmeg, when doing the Croisiere in Jan, there were a fair few of us with the spacers on and some (ChrisTyler) run with spacers permanently with no detrimental effect.

A vehicle of this size and heavy duty build generally has no problem with this mod, particularly if you're using them only for a short period.

I'm sure there's some calculation that can be done to work out the additional force the change in geometry setup would have and could then compare against the spec of the bearings, but a) i'm not qualified to do so and b) errrr can't be asked..... Laughing Wink BL farrar will be along in a minute with the information on how to do it Wink

Hi Bodsy - thanks for clarification it meant wheel spacers! Thumbs Up

I know how they work, but I could think of other types of spacer that could go under snow chain etc. to change dimensions, just wondering what was meant.

Wheel spacers and not a great invention in my view, and ideally I am looking for a 19" wheel chain that does not need them - as per the debate in all the other threads my need fits the stuck and desperate, rather than going off-piste solution.

Paul

PS - Finally finished off the split charge yesterday! Just need to connect some outlets to the optima now so I can power stuff with it!

No problem, with 19", use Axl's ones Thumbs Up

As for the wiring, if you'd have got the Traxide kit, you'd have at least now been on to the stage where you'd have been shopping form something to power off of it....... Laughing
Hope to see this solution at the southern meet?

So my 5mm on the Pewags looks encouraging. I think TFC uses Pewags too. I've ordered spacers just in case, should look cool with chunky tires. For winter tyres I'm on Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow.

Important safety note:
The winter wheels I bought need 19mm bolts, not the standard 22mm with washer. Being Aluminium I have to tighten them daily for the first few days or they loosen, same effect with alu spacers I guess. No such problems with the standard wheels. But once everything has settled its OK.
There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Thanks Bodsy, noticed they are MTR's as well, and we are still on the Scorpion's and will be for a while, so need to check their same or smaller, but my money on the MTR being the chunkier!

MTR definately chunkier!! (13mm tread instead of 8mm!) The MTR's make it easier to put the chains onas they can grip onto the tread with no problem.

I am looking for advice on which is the best snowchain to use for my Disco 3 - I have 255/55/R19 tyres - there are lots of posts out there but no definitive answer - From what I have gathered you need to put the chains on the front wheels. But there is a clearance issue - I have tried to measure the clearance and reckon its 18mm. Land Rover use (Sell at £400 Censored ) a conventional chain - not sure what the link size is ? - see http://accessories.landrover.com/ - - The chains I am looking at range from the RUD Power / 'Grip V' 4 x 4 chains no. 02741 at £115 from - www.roofbox.co.uk or the Maggi TRAK 4x4 chains no. LT52 at £260 also from roofbox - or the Konig T2 255 4x4 at £150 from www.skidrive.co.uk - or finally the Weissenfels Klack & Go SUV at £230 from www.snowchains.co.uk. - So which one do I get? where do land rover get theirs - I don't want to scrimp on what could be a vital piece of equipment - but then again I don't want to spend £250 unnecessarily. I was thinking about buying the Konig T2 has anyone used them on 255/55/R19 tyres? - I don't want to fit spacers. Any help or advice greatly appreciated - I'm totally confused.

I used spacers earlier in the year doing the Croisiere. Travelled from Bristol to the Alps and Back at good lively speeds Whistle , no problems Thumbs Up with STTs on

If you fit them in the UK make sure you check and tighten the spacers when you get to the colder climate as the nuts can work loose due to the large change in temperature.

They didnt affect the handling or cause any mechanical issues. Also I think christyler has had spacers fitted now for thousands of miles.
