Weight distribution hitches

Wonder if anyone has had any experience using a weight distribution hitch (a common type of hitch in the US) on an LR3. Land Rover does not recommend using them, however with a tongue weight of 550 lbs, you can be limited in the size of caravan/travel trailer you can pull. If someone is using one could they tell me what brand and what size (weight and tongue weight) trailer you are pulling. I currently have a light weight travel trailer, about 4500 lbs, with a tongue weight of about 500 lbs, so it falls inside the LR recommended specs. However I want to get a bigger, and hence heavier, trailer.

Some debate as to whether to use one or not. LR do not recommend but if that is for air suspension or coils it is not known. Some have had issues with AWDH setting off the DSC too early. There do appear to be any reports of severe effects either way but few who do not use them have seen the need to have one.

thanks for the info so far, I can see there has been much debate in the past on this, it is frustrating that LR cannot complete some of their own testing with weight distribution hitches
