when its time to change the pads what do people go for genuine lr(which i would fit myself) or i have read you can get them from kwikfit and they replace them for free for the life of the car

This is not a direct answer to your question, but with my D1 I always used LR pads as being the best compromise between pad and disc. Others were always impressed by the D1's stopping ability.
I'll continue to do the same with my D3.

I'm using the genuine as well, no problems with wear and good stopping power.
Plus they come with a full set of bolts and springs that you don't always get in the non-genuine packs.

Think someone tried a while ago... KF's response was something along the line of 'only OEM pads are available for the D3, and the offer doesn't apply to OEM brakes'
