My DISCO3 Re-Mapped
Well after 12 months of ownership, I decided it was time for a remap 8) Being a bit of a car tuning guru, I wanted the best bang for my buck available! Plenty of research ensued.... In the end I decided to go for a dyno tune and file to suit my car and needs. This was supplied by a very professional out fit near Norwich that go by the name of AP-Tuning.
So last Saturday I set off in the D3 over to APT to see what they could offer. I was very impressed with their workshop facilities and plenty of other exotica and race cars in build 8) The managing director (Gary Hayward) was more than happy to explain how it all worked and the warranties that came with soon to be, new found power and fuel economy 8)

So on to the dynamometer the D3 went. I know frm other experience with car tuning that the Dynodynamix dyno used at APT is highly accurate and impossible to fudge figures with.

So after the first couple of pulls my standard D3 was doing bang on standard power

So on with the remap
Straight away the gains could be seen

The car now not only feels great and pulls really cleanly. It is not at all smokey, and where previous to the remap it was averaging 27.4mpg. I am now getting (driving exactly the same) 33.2mpg 8) Magic!
All together one very happy customer. I cant recommend AP-Tuning enough to all fellow D3 enthusiasts & the trip to Norfolk is well worth combining with a bit of green laning.

Nice write-up Ross
Mind if I ask how much it all cost?
I'll have a year's ownership under my belt soon and I was considering something like this.I see no ships........

It cost £400 inc VAT.
But Gary did say if a bunch of owners got together for a "group buy" he would work a deal out for us.

Cheers Ross, D3 looks a bit of a squeeze - in access height was it?
Does he offer any re-do in the event of a dealer wipe?
I would be provisionally interested in a remap with them as they are local to me2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony

Was a bit of a squeeze
I don't think a dealer wipe would happen. But am pretty sure they would reinstall without any problems. They also keep your original file and give a weeks money back satisfaction guarantee!
I cant recommend it enough. Just near you too ed. No excuses!!

Excellent write-up and photos Ross - you seem more than pleased with the result and as others have said, it's good to see the before and after curves rather than just to be told an approximate figure. A very competitive price too compared with other remaps available. Maybe you can persuade the firm to become a site sponsor and offer a discount to site members.

They have already said they will do a deal for a group of cars.
Gary seems to specialise in race/ track cars and mainly does the MoTec type live ecu mapping, But really knows his stuff.

good write up & pics
Slightly surprised that the max bhp is 213 where other 'chippers' quote figures in excess of that - for example, taken from the JE Engineering website:
TDV6 Performance Options - Stage1 - A remapped chip gives a performance upgrade to 235bhp and torque to 575Nm.
Am I missing something here?

I could get mine to do "235 BHP" if I took it to a Dynojet Dyno! Dynodynamics is disapointingly accurate if you are looking for "pub figures!! APT can trim the map to your requirments to some extent. However I asked for a nice safe file that would increase MPG ratther than lots more power & lots of smoke

aha ... that would explain it then Ross...
I had the JE Tune and it doesn't give me anymore MPG plus I got smoke ...
Does pull like a train when towing though

As far as I know, dynos give the actual power produced at the wheels.
They provide data on what is being put onto the road, so the losses in the drive train are taken out of the result.
That could mean that an additional 10% is actually produced at the engine, which would seem more in line with the quoted figures from others, where they give the engine output rather than that produced at the wheels.
If you look at the initial figure, it is less than the 190 BHP the engine is supposed to produce.

Ok, so I may be wrong, having studied the pictures more closely, the graphs do indicate flywheel power. but this must be a calculated figure as it can only actually measure the power at the wheels unless you take the engine out an bench run it!
