Tips for the First Delivery Inspection

I am picking up my new Disco 3 SE (auto) from Stratstone Heathrow on 8.12.05. From the rave reviews of the Disco 3 in "What Car" I was very excited, until I read some of the threads on this helpful site. Now I am nervous.
What should I look out for on handover, and any specific questions I should ask the dealer?
Many thanks
Verna

Verna, don't be nervous!
Best question to ask the dealer is "what's this button do" .... about thirty times Wink
Seriously, as with any vehicle - related forum, there will always be an emphasis on faults / defects. I have an '06MY HSE that has significantly less problems than the previous builds (so far....) BUT, to my mind there never was any choice of vehicle as nothing else comes close in on or off road performance, comfort, capacity and safety.
My only regret is that I live far too close to work....

When I pick up a new car I treat it like a 2nd hand car purchase.

Check body work and wheels for small dents or scratches. Check all electrics work including gauges and importantly lights. Check air suspension in all settings. Check they have included the wheel locking key (left out of a freelander I bought!). Check light lenses for any damage. Run the air conditioning to check it is working. Let the car run and stabilise at normal temperature. Finally check rear seat and glove box catches.

You would be surprised, over the years, how many faults I have picked up on a 'new' car and had to defer pickup until sorted.

From recent posts regarding the voice control and the sat nav/radio function, I would get the dealer to fully demonstrate the feature to you, and make sure you know what it can and can't do. If the dealer can't make it work, snag it.

FYI my 05 my has voice activation that works very well nearly everytime, and make sure the dealer sets the voice to English Female. To check this pull the voice tab on the steering wheel, say "Radio ON" and the car should respond "Radio ON" in a very sexy Queens English female voice. If you get a dodgy american sounding male then its setup wrong.

Guys your comments are brilliant - many many thanks
Its a 2006 specification, and the best (most expensive) car I have ever owned. The trick will be keeping by husband away from it!!!

Very Happy

We live in Walton on Thames. We are trading in our 2003 TD5 ES (which was a dream). Fingers crossed that the new Disco 3 will be even better

Hi Verna

What a a great time to pick up your new car. 8)

I agree with all the above comments, check everything including the seat adjustments. I found my handover at the dealership was very informative although, all of it did not sink in at the time, it was busy at the garage on the day and felt a bit rushed, also the anticipation of driving it away was distracting me.

However 3 months on and it still feels as exciting as the day I took delivery of it.

If you can, you should take full advantage of the Landrover Experience Voucher, do it sooner rather than later, while the weather is so unpredictable. I promise you will be in awe of what the car can do off road Razz

I dont mind my husband driving mine occasionally- I want him to be as impressed as I am. and he is, more so now he been off roading. Thumbs Up

Look forward to hearing about the handover of your car.

Enjoy!!

what to look for

Can the dealer look you in the eye and say there are no problems and they are NOT re-launching a new model in early 2006

Thanks, will do.

Have the loan of a freelander at the mo. We did the deal and they couldn't deliver the new car. We refused to drive our old one as we were at HUGE risk, they had our money and the car!!!
The freelander is rubbish. Feels really plasticy and the ride is rough, no heated seats either!!!! LOVE my heated seats.

Thanks Allie

Yep, am am really excited. I want to do that off road experience because my hubbie forwarded me this video of a load of American bikers testing the new disco off road. It was hilarious and really amazing what the car was doing. I honestly thought it was going to roll at one stage. I think I may have put the handbrake on and got out!!!!!!!!!!!

Rolling with laughter
