Steering angle sensor module

My sons took his Disco3 (L319) out the last week, suspension lowered, special programme not available.
On checking had series of lost communication with instrument cluster, VDCM, RLCM, TCCM, SASM.
After several attempts to clear these I now get.
ATCM (U0416-94) Invalid data received from VDCM Temporary.
ATCM (U0421-94) Invalid data received from RLCM Temporary.
RLCM (U0416-86) Invalid data received from VDCM Temporary.
RLCM (U0428-86) Invalid data received from SASM Temporary.
TCCM (U0126-87) Lost communication with SASM Permanent.
VDCM (U0428-68) Invalid data received from SASM Permanent.
VDCM (U1B00-27) Steering angle sensor Permanent.
1) Checked SASM and it’s not moving on steering column so it’s good.
2) Checked supply and ground on SASM and is good.
3) Checked high speed CAN bus 60 ohm’s between positive and negative CAN line.
4) Checked high speed CAN bus approximately 2.5v on positive and negative line chase.
I’m able to read SASM data no assembly No: Hardware No: SR0500110, plus serial no and software No, so it must be sort of working.
Looks like I have a problem with the steering angle sensor module. Can anyone give me any suggestions where I should look next or how to test further to identify the fault.
If I get a SASM a second hand one do I need to program it?

See photo for my thoughts on why it's SASM

Thanks Raymond

You more than likely do not need a new SAS, its a common fault when they get older. Its the plastic collar that drives the SAS that is spinning on the steering column .

All you need to do is access it either by removing the steering column { my preferred way } or work from under neath.

look at this post.

Thans Flank,

the plastic collar that drives the SAS don't seem to be sliping as it moves with steering wheel. It was one of the first things I checked.
