SYSTEM FAULT SPECIAL PROGRAMS NOT AVAILABLE

Hi

I have a irritating problem with my disco3

This message pops up on start and the car also gets limp mode. No warninglight on dash just the message.

I get codes from my icarsoft reader
U0401-94
U0416-94

Once in a while it starts normal but after a while the message pops up and im back in limpmode.

I have changed battery and checked some connectors but nothing have made a difference. Suspension gerbox, handbrake and high/low works perfect.

Anyone have ideas?

Try a better reader like a gap tool, should be some hard codes if you are getting communication errors.

I have read out the codes with 3 different readers and this is the codes i get. Sadly i have 700km to the closet Land Rover dealer so that is not an option.

try doing proper hard reset

mostly those codes are BCM related hard reset might help or solve but not guarantied

if hard reset does not improve things I would start looking at all connectors going to BCM engine ECU and all more exposed for oxidation of pins and stuff of clearly visible harness damage
have you checked you charging level when car operates normally
good luck

Hi

I have already done the hard reset several times, it does not cure the system fault. It is totally random when it comes on or not.

Some times i can start the car with no fault warnings at all (still in limp mode) and drive around with it and the warning message dont appear until i twist the drive mode selector.

maybe gear selector has the issues than since it is kinda directly resulting in fault appearing?

I have been thinking so too, i have a used center console on the way. I will try to swap it out and see if it works

I have been thinking about the instrument cluster too, it might be faulty.

gear selector gathers lots of crap from users and activity around it and not waterproof so i guess if water ever got there at all would defo cause issues

I get the same message on start up, but doesn't seem to go into limp mode fortunately.
So what exactly are the "special functions" that aren't working???

I would start by checking the TCM behind the battery and then check the plugs behind the passenger footwell behind the bonnet release as I had found a few plugs with light corrosion. The TCM seemed to be the main source of my dash lighting up.

This was the state of my TCM.

On starting the engine the starter motor takes a lot of current which causes the voltage to dip. As I understand it when the key is turned to position II start-up built in test will be run, which will flag up faults if the voltage is low, thus it is best to allow the start-up built in test to complete before turning the key to position III and engaging the starter motor. Thus if you turn the key to position II and wait say 10 second before turning the key to position III does mak a difference to the error messages you receive?
