Just one added thought... When I've had this type of fault where it is hit and miss whether the fault develops, it has sometimes been a relay that is on its way out. It is hard to imagine any single relay causing your range of issues, but the interconnected nature of the electronics on modern(ish!) cars mean that almost anything is possible.
As ever, there is always the balance between "Occam's Razor" and "Hickams dictum" - while a single fault might be the most logical scenario, two separate, coincidental faults are possible. I'm not sure if I am completely clear whether your not-starting issue is different from the central console/indicators/door-locking issue - when the latter occurs does the car still start? Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

I have a car from the same year and month as you, I had similar strange electrical events with the car ...
There were no errors or anything else and the car suddenly died and was impossible to start .... suddenly it would come to life when it wanted to ...
I bought a second used BCM, cloned the data from mine and the car has been driving like this for two years.
Read here I described my problems with the car there .. maybe you have something similar ...

In reply to JackVoyager - I will certainly pursue the idea of replacing the BCM.
In reply to Worms: I do not think that the starting problem and the console problem are related (unless it is at some deep level).
The starting problem does not occur at the same time as the console problem and vice versa.
I will discuss all of the suggestions made with my mechanic and we will see how we go.

I have decided to replace the BCM.
When this has been done and tested, I will report further.
