rear upper suspension arms |

hi guys just been searching on here for this. lots of peeps doing them but no info that i could find on removing the arms ?
had a advisory on rear upper outer rose joint having play. done them at the weekend then noticed the play was actually in the upper arm bushs. just ordered all the bits and bolts from island 4x4.
but wondered what the best way was.

If the bolts come out then they are dead easy, when I did mine I just chopped the arms into parts so it was easy to get something in to cut the fixing bolts.

Can you get a reciprocating saw in there

I've just done all my rear wishbones a couple of weeks ago so this is all fresh in my mind.
First off, wire brush everything and start soaking it in penetrating oil, as many times as you can between now & tackling the job.
You're obviously going to need appropriate spanners etc. but I assume you have those if you've already done the ball joints.
Both the upper front bolts came out easily for me. One of the upper rear bolts came out very reluctantly - I had a 4' bit of pipe on the spanner and even with that it took a lot of force. The other upper rear just Would. Not. Budge. At that point you need to start cutting. I've seen reciprocating saws recommended but I don't have one so I used an angle grinder with a slitting disc. First to cut the arm off so I had more space, then to cut the bush & bolt through. I ended up with this:
And then putting it back together is easy !!

From what I've read, and my own experience, there's a fair chance you'll end up cutting the arms to get them off. I'd honestly recommend getting complete new arms so that you don't end up stranded part way through this.

Oh ! And ! The brake lines are attached to the upper arms aren't they ? You'll need to detach them. Mine came off OK-ish but it would be very easy to mangle them.

I also have to do mine have priced them up with AF but do I stay oem as they have lasted 10.5 years

How old are the arms on the car, as aside from if the bolts undone or not there is always a good chance the arms themselves could be past saving it’s not uncommon for the arms to have developed holes from rust.

Not realy rusty at all.
Only owned the car 12 months, so not sure.

Just done upper rear arms on the d4 while the body was off. Feared the worst as they were original and 130k. They all came out without a fight!

both sides are off, bit of a fight undoing the rear bolts more because the alloy bush rotated with the bolt. i aproached this by breaking the tangs off on the nuts then undoing them first.
had to buy new breakline pipe as i didnt want to put the steel ones back on.
finishing driver side today and split the rubber on the new rose joint that i fitted last week
orered new should b e here tuesday. bushs were tight to get out of the arms as well.
i take it i can use my new gap tool to bleed the brakes ?
