Car went to the local Stealer for its 128k service (it's only done 93k)
Generally all ok but picked up 2 issues. One I knew of, excess play in the steering, probably the lower steering column but quoted £897 (no chance)
The other issue was with both back tyres. Described as a bulge in the sidewall so I imagined the big bubble in the sidewall but I had been under the back of the car only last week so was shocked to have both tyres develop the problem.
In fact what he was reporting a slight change in the surface in the 1st 15mm outside the wheel rim. It's so slight I can't get anything to show up in a photograph, I'm more concerned about the cracking in the surface in the area, seldom seen it that area, more noticed it under the tread area. The tyres are 4 years old and still have 6mm of tread left.
Talk about selling up to make more money.
He also said that a tyre was on the wrong way round because it had the label "inside" outwards and would be an MoT fail. I knew about it and it passed the test a month ago as its not a failure item (section 5.2.3) A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Personally I wouldn't want to be driving a car with tyre issues. Tyres are usually directional so knowing one is the wrong way round to me is a problem MOT pass or not. I suspect it was missed.
I take the view that the rubber connecting a 3 tonne, four wheel drive brick to the road is rather important. Besides, any insurer will be looking for anY any reason to dismiss a claim for one reason or another. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

After some thought came to the conclusion that as both rear tyres are affected but the fronts are ok it has been used for towing with a badly balanced trailer/too high a noseweight without increasing tyre pressures.
It would explain why the cracking is above the bead section at only 4 years old and not the more common just below the tread/sidewall join on much older tyres. Apparently I should expect to find even worse damage inside when they are removed and it is particularly a risk with low profile tyres being effectively underinflated much closer to the correct pressure than higher profiles.
