I was happy with my solution, and decided to implement the same on the driver side - also eliminating the problematic rubber elbow.
First test is promising, just poured a 2 litre bottle of water into the sunroof gutter and all of it quickly drained out of both of my new exit pipes.
Now waiting for heavy rain for the real test and to find out if I have further leaks or not.
All the trim and carpets are still up/off as it's going to take some time to dry out - dehumidifier is on 24/7 now.
Here's the driver side pictures.
Hopefully this will help someone else as this seems to be a perennial problem.
This method allows both pipes to be replaced without the need to remove the CJB / fusebox which is a massive win as from all I have read it's a pig of a job and fraught with risk of electrical gremlins etc.

I also removed these 2 polythene bags stuffed with a triangle of foam from the inner wings (accessible through the side vents) - I can only imagine that they are for sound deadening?
The passenger one was holding about a litre of stagnant water, which I can't imagine is doing any good for anything.

How good a fit is the scuttle (the plastic trim panel that the wiper shafts come through) top rubber edge against the glass? Also remove the pollen filter from above the fan casing behind the glove box and see if it is wet?
When the scuttle panel doesnt seal against the glass water can run down behind and onto the panel behind and run across to the passenger side. The front lip that it runs off is over the cabin air intake and doesn't project far enough forward to miss the intake. Water then run into the pollen filter and into the cabin.
The fix is to stick a piece of plastic ( I was advised the side of a milk bottle on here) under the lip to extend it further forward so the overspill misses the air intake and drains outboard, under the car instead of in it!
It worked for me, the trouble is I had gone to the hassle of removing the CJB only to find the hose was ok. A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.
