LR3 4.4 swap into LR4 5.0?

I know this forum is oriented more towards a UK audience but there's plenty of us seppos here and maybe someone else has looked into the idea of swapping the 4.4 V8 from a LR3 into a dead or dying LR4 5.0.
I'm starting to see these trucks released into the wild cheap to fend for themselves with gammy overheated engines that may or may not be rebuildable. OTOH LR3 engines are tougher than woodpecker lips and can be had for $1500 or less, I recently purchased an entire working LR3 that I drove home for $500 US, but it is a crusty thing under the skirts and I'm not sure it's worth putting a lot into to save it. Sure, I'm going to drive it but it's a temporary thing until I can afford a LR4 or a Discovery.
Am I wrong thinking that the 4.4 V8 should bolt to a ZF auto? I'd also think that one could swap the MAF, throttle body ignition coild and such from the 5.0 to the 4.4. No inspection here in MI, so no concerns about CELs.
Vehicles as nice as LR4's deserve better than a scrapyard.

As a PO of the 4.4 V8 in the L3 and now the mostly nervous owner of a late model LR4 3.0SCV6 I have often wondered about this. Hoping someone with some experience of just this will come along.

Have you posted the same Q on the two main US sites (LR forum/fourms)?

Not an easy task!

I have, and yours is the only peep I've heard. Lots of reads but no replies.

Seems like a reasonable idea though, given that the recycle yards are well stocked with 4.4's for an average of $1500 US, and occasionally the whole beast comes up for $1500 or less. If it all bolted up, I would think that the electonics could be sorted out.

Here in the US, most LR3's are already equipped with the 4.4 Jag motor. It's a thirsty lump but it is a good engine, TBH if I were thinking of swapping a different engine int oa D1 or D2 I'd consider that setup rather than the SBC. I have a 5.7 SBC in my 79 Chevy PU and it's a dog compared to the Jag engine.
