Precisely right.

But please don't misinterpret me. I'm just attempting to complete pinpoint test #1 and rule out in insufficient electrical source case.

Whether a chinesium module or any other module with any other identifier... good luck with that.

>Seems fairly clear...

Perhaps, but that fault is thrown by the engine ECU not the Body Control Unit and is it referring to the EPB or PAM which are both parts of the parking system? The terms used are decidedly sloppy.

>D3 and D4 EPB modules are NOT compatible. Mechanically, yes. Electronically, no.

Oh well, useful to know.

>What EXACT part (number) have the garage fitted? Have they fitted a D3 module, which
>perhaps the scan tool will communicate with OK, but the rest of the car can't?

The EPB module fitted by the garage worked for 3 months, so cannot be fundamentally incompatible.

>I would expect more modules to be complaining that they can't communicate with the EPB
>module though.

Me too, which is why I suspect this might not be as meaningful as it first appears.

Scotland 2010 Discovery 4 5.0 V8 HSE Auto Nara BronzeDiscovery 4

Hi, the following may be useful :-

1. I bought a low mileage 2006 D3 with defective EPB.

2. EPB yellow warning light was on permanently, EPB switch on/off made no difference. From MEMORY (this was back in 2016) codes indicated no communication with EPB.

3. My indy workshops in Ballymena (am I allowed to insert their website here ?) measured supply voltage at the EPB (a green wire) - should have been 12v, measured voltage was 3.

4. Following the green cable forward from the EPB servo/winch and along lower LHS of the car we found increasingly the copper beneath the green insulation was corroded to a grey-brown powder; degree of corrosion getting worse nearer the front of the car.

5. Indy engineer decided to abandon the corroded cable, he connected a new cable from somewhere near the fuses behind the "glove box", taking 12v back to the EPB.

6. EPB worked perfectly after battery was reconnected (and do remember if you pursue this yourself, I THINK the EPB power supply is not switched, i.e. is permanently "live" at 12v so you should pull the fuse or disconnect the battery while tinkering).

So, the above may or may not be relevant - but for me the engineer's diagnosis meant the difference between half a day of actual workshop labour vs. prospect of labour and parts to fit and calibrate an unnecessary new EPB - and even then the problem would not have been fixed !!

Cheers Smile))

It looks like what I need to do is to be able to command the EPB to do things from the diagnostics as this would let me test just the EPB. (Not a great brainwave, it is in the official diagnostic procedure.) My budget diagnostic Maxiecu does not have this feature. IID tool looks the favourite and is able to control the position of the EPB module, but is a bit shockingly expensive. Are there any other options worth considering. Theoretically this car is a keeper - though not quite so sure now - so paying for an expensive diagnostics tool is not entirely daft.

D3 D4 compability.

The car has SALLAAAG6DA695395 Discovery 4

The information in GAP for the Chinese unit is:
No VIN number
Assembly (F112) EH22-2C496(AB)
Hardware (F111) AH22-14C261-AE = AH22-14C261-AD
Serial 0017686319
Strategy (F188) 001

The number on the label of my old unit is:
5H32-2C496AC
What I can see is that this is a Discovery 3 number. The workshop is definite that it came from my Disco 4
The circuit board has numbers 9891521913 and 28970310
Sensor has number E419001300C and 32888561K

Motor in old unit works fine. The fault seemed to be that the cable with the screw was tight agains the moving plunger.

Sorry to be so specific with my EPB details. but I think it is important to know about EPB modules compability.

re compatibility of D3 and D4 EPB. I've had a pretty good look at pictures of D3 and D4 EPBs on ebay and I can't see any physical differences including the plug/socket. That doesn't mean that they are compatible of course! They do consistently have different part numbers. I think the only way to be sure is to try it and it takes me so long to build up the rear brakes that I am not offering!
