Blind-spot mirror problem

The big problem with Disco 4 mirrors is there is no blind-spot mirror.

If the car was not supplied with the radar blind-spot warning it is not retro-fittable.

Now....

I have found someone who does replacement mirror glass that has the traditional blind-spot section - great - but they are mirror glass only and stuck over the original glass which will limit the effectiveness of heating the mirror to keep it clear.

Does anyone do this sort of mirror pre-mounted with heating wired so I can just plug and replace?

Mine is a 2016 facelift D4, one of the last - this mirror shape was used on several models so it must be in someones interest to do such a mirror upgrade - I just can't find it.

Anyone know?

Please ...........

Thanks Kevin,

This is exactly what I want - BUT this is for the pre-facelift D4 - it won't fit my 2016 facelift D4. Sad

And - the mirrors on the site that fit the facelift 2014-2016 D4 do not have the blind-spot mirror option. Big Cry

BSM was never offered on the Freelander, but with Range Rover parts it was done. A bit complex but might be an option.

As I understand it the detectors for blind spot monitoring/cross traffic detection are in the tailgate of the car, so not just an update on the mirrors themselves. Hope you find what you’re looking for. If it is available, a good upgrade.

A blind-spot mirror shouldn’t be needed in cars if all the mirrors are adjusted and used correctly.

Sorry, I disagree.

My mirrors are correctly aligned with the inside edge just off seeing the car and a vehicle can still be in the blind spot.

I do a lot of continental driving so need this both sides - you cannot look into both mirrors at once - a good blind spot mirror is an essential. Driving at over 100mph on the Autobahn in Germany you need the best visibility possible as it's so easy to try and overtake a slower car while a Porsche or the like comes tearing past you at 150mph plus leaving you like you are standing still even though you are going at over 100mph.

I just need an after-market one I can plug in and connect to the heat wiring.

And you are absolutely entitled to disagree. Very Happy

And now my apologies, I was referring to UK driving in a RHD vehicle and from my experience I stand by that.

However, I can definitely see the need for one for continental driving.

Thumbs Up

I understand,

On the drivers side as the passing vehicle leaves the mirror it is normally in view of the driver - although a blind spot mirror does make it more visible.

For the passenger side you are on the other side of the vehicle and the blind spot is larger for an overtaking (undertaking) vehicle.

I used to have a 2009 X-Trail that had no blind-spot mirror - so I went into a dealer in Slovakia and bought the door mirror for a LHD car so I had them both sides - never had a problem after I did that.

I just want to do the same for my D4. I have managed to find the glass, but it is unmounted - I just want a version already in a mount so I can just plug in.

Or, as a last resort, I may have to buy standard ones and try and swap the glass over.
