It has been known to happen and is not all that rare either. If you open the filler cap after a run or when the fault event occurs, and you can hear vacuum escaping that's a certain indicator the cap breather is blocked.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Well.. great idea and fitted the bill… driving for 20 minutes, engine warm, causing vacuum lock etc…great idea in principle but unfortunately not the reason.. bought brand new genuine fuel cap this morning, drove back from the dealer, put the engine under a slight bit of load and bang…same fault, engine fault, suspension fault , gearbox fault etc etc.. total loss of power..
Cycle ignition and clears itself but still leaves me with P0087 fault code fuel pressure too low…
Aaarrgghhh.

Electrical? CAN bus?
2008 FFRR TDV8 - very similar set of faults to what you describe, including hard 'P' faults as well as many 'U' comms faults, engine fault, suspension, gearbox fault, you name it.
With my FFRR the problem got worse as it warmed up.
In the end concluded faulty ignition switch - I'm not suggesting this is the same, but the age of the vehicle means that the reported faults can be horribly misleading on a CAN that connects all the key modules, so it could be similar?
Replaced the ignition switch and bingo, everything solved
Just a thought and sorry if not helpful.

Is there a data logger that can be installed to the OBD.
Might show what's happening at the time it goes into limp mode.

Sorry to read of your woes…
Any update on this as I’m having the same problems.
I’ve noticed that the oil temp sensor is faulty as I’m getting wildly fluctuating readings .
Not sure if a faulty oill temp sensor could trigger limp mode but it seems logical.

Apologies as there are a couple of other similar threads relating to this issue which I have updated but missed this one!
So went back to the garage and after a number of discussions with them we have fitted a new JLR fuel rail with incorporated fuel pressure sensor.. been back with me a couple of weeks now and all appears perfect…(presently) and maybe it’s too soon to say it’s cured but despite provoking it or trying to get it to default into limp home mode I have been unable to succeed.. which is great news so far..
The sensor has definitely made a difference as the car now behaves differently and when demanding power under load their seems to be a slight difference and almost a hesitation before changing down..
Fingers crossed and I will keep you all posted as lots of you are all reporting a very very similar fault…

Well a few weeks in and driving a number of miles on different errands I can report that the car has remained faultless.. so fitting a oem fuel rail and incorporated fuel rail sensor has still apparently made a big difference..
Will keep updating!

Good to hear - I also changed the pressure regulator and so far, no more limp
mode or low pressure fault codes.
As already mentioned, I noticed my oil temperature was all over the place and have a new temp sensor to fit but that doesn’t appear to be the root cause.
Best,
Matt.

Thank will give it a try.
Changed the low pressure fuel pump this weekend.
That was a task and a half. Fuel filter was completely block so not sure how it was working. So thought bingo this is the fix and all will be OK.
Also found flakes of rust in the tank so cleaned and removed all fuel and strained.
Drive for 7 miles all OK, fuel was low so went to garage and put in £25 , 5 or so miles later and Again LIMP MODE could of cried.
Any other thoughts people ??

Forgive me if you have already considered/tried this but I had similar problems with a Defender.
The solution was a new fuel filler cap, the vent was blocked and after a while created a vacuum and wouldn't pump enough fuel.

Sorry for late reply
EGR circuit B - High P045D
Fuel rail/system pressure too low P0087
Fuel rail pressure sensor performance P0191
Cleared those messages ans next time it failed got these.
Injector control pressure too low P2290
EGR circuit B - High P045D
Cleared these then managed to do good 15 miles of slown fast roads and was fine.
I'm lost for ideas.
