Icarus - you sound like I used to 👍

From the age of 10 I wanted a LR - when the Disco 1 came out I was just married and we both wanted one but it was out of our price range ☹️

Eventually we had enough money and we test drove one but everyone said they’re unreliable (nicknamed LR Recovery apparently) so we bought a Land Cruiser - brilliant tow vehicle etc but never felt the love 😳

2000 took the plunge on a Freelander SW and thought we’d never look back - not a problem for 10 years on 6 FL1s, Disco 2s & FL2s but the next 6 years 2 RRSs and a Disco Sport it all went wrong 🤦‍♂️

Since then I’ve had an outlander PHEV, countryman PHEV, 500c and fiesta that never missed a beat but I’m now back in a world of hurt with a Mazda PHEV and thinking it’s time to try again maybe 🤔

Like you I’m thinking LR to tow the van as a second vehicle and probably a mini electric for local use 🤞
Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Hi DSL 👋

Good to see some familiar names still here 😎

My grandad loved his Skodas and Lada - they’ve come a long way since then 🤣

Back to BMW.....the X545e is a great car...... and Volvo via an XC70. Although I still have a soft spot for LR and was eyeing up the boot on a D5 on the dog walk this morning

My cure for LR addiction springs back to 2017 when my D3 blew its engine in NW Norway. I also had a D4 at the same time but never gelled with it and was always nervous out in the Scandinavian wilderness when my phone had “NO SERVICE” in the display. That’s when I decided 30 years of LR ownership was over. Bought a Skoda Karoq in 2020 and it hasn’t missed a beat, touch wood. Wouldn’t go back, it’s nice not having to be constantly shelling out and stressing out. Thumbs Up

And re D3 vs D4, my D4 never missed a beat, the D3 was a complete cash cow. To drive the D3 was like an old pair of loafers, the D4 a pair of stiff brogues. Miss the D3 but not the D4, apart from when I need a mahoosive boot. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

DSL I remember your Norway trip 😎

Like you I gave up 2016 after 16 years - must be getting Alzheimers thinking of doing it all again 😳

As they say, you don’t have to be mad to come back to LR, but it helps. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Must confess there was a rather nice new Defender parked in the car park of the hotel we were using in Cambodia earlier this week. It kind of stood out among the “standard” 4x4s and UN pickups. Then I remembered I was cured and wanted an easy life!! Plus a happy wife is a happy life. Whistle

United Kingdom 2015 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

Just to say, I have always loved the LR4, love the look of them. However could never afford one. Then my daughter also one day said that is the car she would love to have with her two boys. So five years ago started looking for one at the right price. took two years of looking and then found the perfect one on my doorstep. I have had it two years and never had a problem, and love the car to bits. Very Happy

probably should not of said that to loud Shocked

When they’re going well they’re excellent 👌

Long may it continue for you 🤞

As I liked to say:

They can be the best car in the world, they can be the worst car in the world. Usually on the same day. Thumbs Up
