Disc & Pad recommendations

Hi all, my front discs and pads are about due a change and the rears won't be too far behind. There has been some talk at home about looking at caravans so if anything comes of that I'll do them all sooner rather than later.

I've seen green stuff pads mentioned a few times, less brake dust would certainly be welcomed but I'd appreciate any advise on what to/not to look at if anyone has any.

I've been looking at the LOF standard and upgraded sets too.

If you drive off road stick to a plain disc not drilled, grooved or dimpled, as those are a magnet for small stones and gravel.

I’ve been using Brembo pads and discs with no complaints and like the fact that, unlike the oe discs, the centres don’t go rusty.

Others will have their own preferences. I doubt you’ll go far wrong with any known quality brand tbh.

Prices vary wildly from the usual online retailers every time I buy a set. So it’s worth spending a little time searching.

I tried some different (EBC) discs and pads.

The discs I tried were drilled and grooved.

They warped under heat.

I noticed no real difference with green or yellow pads and am now back with OEM discs and pads which with a BREMBO big brake front setup are fantastic.

OEM would be my recommendation from my experience.

Try some others, see what you think maybe?

I don't get to play in the mud as often as I'd like but I'll avoid them for that reason thanks.

Will price up some options and have a look into servicing the slider pins etc. I fitted new caliper carriers to my old D2, not sure I need to go that far on this one though.

I've had Meyle discs and pads from AF and whilst perfectly serviceable they don't have a lot of initial bite which i find a bit disconcerting, particularly when towing. Picked up some Ferodo pads from AF to replace the front and they are much better (still on the Meyle discs).

I spent the extra and went for Brembo, immediate improvement on whatever was on there before, looking forward to seeing how they bed in. There are many cheaper options but as we now tow a 1.5t caravan hopefully these will prove to be worth it.

One point to note, there is a new part number for these for the 360mm D4 brakes but none of the parts shops seem to have caught up. I don't have it to hand but you are probably best to check the Brembo website.

I had two sets of OEM on my previous D4 but my current one came with Brembo pads and discs and would certainly recommend them. I also pull a tin tent and am very glad of the upgrade

Plus 1 for Brembo here, too.
