A question for the very clever Disco Forum Members,

How the hell do you get at the engine block end of the earth strap bolt ?

Wheel eyebrow off wheel liner off, heat shields and their brackets off. I can just see where it is but have no clue how to access it, someone on here said from under the car ? No way I know I have shovels for hands and sausages for fingers but there is no way up past the starter motor.

Not exactly the news I wanted to hear... But give me a clue re the turbo hose, Air filter box out, plastic manifold to centre engine off I presume where do I go after that.
As the power is disconnected can I disconnect the ride height sensor ? I think a bodged very long 10mm might get in there.[/u]

Why not just move it to another good engine earth point to chassis, it does not have to be there, it can be anywhere as long as its a good earth.

Flack Thumbs Up

The only bolts in the area are turbo (too hot and unlikely to undo) and or engine mount which are too big for the cable lug

Thank god we all have that one friend / colleague that spends way too much time and money on the Snap On van (personally don't like their spanners they feel sharp in the hand)
But today what a life saver, this bit of kit gets in there and sorts the job, still took ages though notch by notch, he does have the same in a ratchet but the turbo hose was too close.

Plus 1 with regards to various spanner’s etc , found the following very useful from short sockets, UJ crows feet , UJ sockets etc

Also using a short socket and a long neck ratchet very handy , great u found a solution

All sorted ... I never want to do that job ever again what an absolute ###################

What the hell were Land Rover thinking attaching an earth on the engine there !!A whole day wasted just to replace a battery sized cable between the engine, chassis and earth.

If you need to know what is required....

Drivers front wheel off,
Drivers wing eyebrow off
Front bumper splash protector off.
Engine and gearbox covers off
Heatshieds behind the strut off inc brackets
Undoo the steering shaft from the steering column and drop down
Then as per pictures you can get at the bolt with a very long ring spanner.
Patience is a virtue so much swearing today
