Brake pad calliper tooll

Guys ,

I have had the MOT done and had an advisory on the front pads being low. Am I correct in saying that it is a simple question of brake fluid lid off. Wheel off pads off and wind back the calliper.

I have had a look through Amazon and found loads of different things. Any one used a good one or are they much the same as each other ??

Check out Bodsy's brake bible on here, or buy the Haynes manual and follow that carefully if you want to do it yourself. Straightforward job if you know what you're doing and are careful at each step. But if you aren't confident I would just get a garage to do it.

I have done tons of pad changes on different cars. Just doesn’t hurt to ask a question as to what others use

I use the old brake pad and a G clamp to push the cylinder back in. No winding like on my vans Thumbs Up

Although I have a couple of wind-back tools in the garage, I find it much simpler and quicker just to use a G-clamp on the D3.
 Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

When you are pushing the caliper pistons in it is good practice to first open the bleed nipple a little, ideally with a vertical length of tube attached. Without doing this there is a danger of turning the master brake cylinder seals inside out. Close the nipple before removing the clamp.

I lever the piston side pad back before I remove the caliper.

Hi

I bought this kit , may I also add after you’ve removed the master cylinder cap please ensure to put some rags around it so when u push the pistons back the brake fluid doesn’t get into any electrics or paintwork

As a side note if u need to replace any brake fluid I use dot 4 , class 6 from ATE
