How many bods should the RAF lob in to France for their effort to be considered sufficient? It’s an act of remembrance, not an exercise. 2013 Orkney Grey D4 SDV6 HSE

Marking of Armistice Day, etc., is as much about the Establishment keeping the idea of "dying for King and Country" in the minds of those that will be expected to do so, as actually saying "thank you" to those that did it last time.
Wars are young men killing other young men who they don't know, so that old men at home can thump their chests. Very few 18-25 year olds start wars but they are the ones that end up dying in them. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

From what I've read, any call up will potentially include those up to 60 years old. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

If so then attending Remembrance Day parades ought to be too. So that's the whole of the Establishment in the dock then... Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Watching a war film is an action, not a thought, so we're ok watching The Longest Day, Sink the Bismark! and The Cruel Sea. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

HWN wrote:A recent poll showed the majority of young people think marking the two World Wars is no longer appropriate - apathy through comfort. The last eighty (mostly) conflict-free years in Europe is historically abnormal and shouldn't be taken for granted. It has to be worked-at, constantly. My parents' and my generations may well be the first two not to be involved in a conflict. My children's generation? Who knows. There are a lot of things that are just black dots on the horizon that could become fully-fledged shadows of doom.
A friend of mine works with young people through social services, many of them with serious issues - most of them have this attitude until he points out that if it was not for those who paid the price & the Nazi's had won they would have been "disposed of" - instant attitude change.
