15 minutes to sleep after engine switched off?

Twice today whilst sat in the car for a while, with the engine off it has taken nearly 15 minutes for the vehicle to go to sleep. Normally, after about 2 minutes everything shuts down until you either start the car, or open the door. I did notice the first time that after several minutes the rotary gear selector tucked itself away, but the display on the instrument cluster was still illuminated and the steering lock hadn't engaged. I can confirm that the ignition was definitely off, as was the stereo.

Could this be some kind of voltage issue? The car is a bit of a weird one in as much as it works backwards - it seems to do a better job of charging the battery on short journeys than it does a long one, which really makes no sense at all. Running voltage is over 14 volts. Engine off usually drops down to 12, then down to around 10 for starting. The worst I've seen when doing a cold start is 7.9 volts. Battery is genuine LR, replaced last December. BMS was told about the change immediately after connecting.

If the auxiliary heater is running it will take a while to shut down as the heater is going through the shutdown process.
The alternator will charge at a much higher rate on a short journey as it is adaptive and will charge according to the load on the engine and the state of the battery charge, it charges very little whilst the engine is under load(accelerating) and at maximum when braking. It also charges at a very high rate on first start up.
The load of the starter motor is almost a dead short and the battery voltage will drop tremendously, this is why you can get fault codes appear after first start up as the system automatically shuts none essential devices down, Is like the human body to keep your body temperature up in cold weather you blood supply is reduced to your hands and feet and they get cold, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong it’s how it works. Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
