Has the caliper been replaced? If it’s a Chinese copy rather than a well known brand then my money would be on that. Had one that was freed off worked perfectly but seized again in a matter of days (in fact two days as I drove to Glasgow and back and had to stop in Dundee for DM to replace it..) for the cost I’d always go with replacement. And I know Clive does great work as he’s worked in two my cars I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I had the exact same issue with mine albeit the near side rear. Local Indy stripped the rears brakes and unlocked a seized handbrake shoe.
Without taking it all sort you couldn’t tell as the handbrake worked perfectly just didn’t release enough in the one side.
Certainly sizzled spit! I got so concerned one night I put the hose pipe on it.
It’s perfect now 2010 D4 XS

So disc was still hot after a short journey.
Had to travel up to Farnborough, (about an hour and a half for me motorway and local roads), Brakes fine.
Travelled from the hotel to the airport and back today and brakes seem fine.
Fingers crossed they may be settling in??

.
Had the rear brake pipes replaced in Feb and it seemed to solve the issue.
Driving back from Norwich yesterday and pulled into the services to grab a coffee and could smell hot steel.
Rear right back to being red hot again. I had only driven about 15 mins.
Any clues and advice please?
Had the rear prop shaft replaced earlier in the year because the bearing was completely mangled. Previous owner had either ignored it or been unaware.
Could this have damaged anything that could be causing this overheating?

Try pulling the park brake release cable under the cup holders and don’t use the park brake for awhile, this will eliminate the park brake if it still does it. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

As mentioned epb, but, may be a coincidence if it cleared after the brake pipes in feb, the handbrake cable sticking, would've been moved about fitting the brake pipe, if I've followed this right, more new parts weren't fitted at that point?

Nothing new fitted at the time of the brake pipes being done.
Only thing since is tracking and wheel balance so all four wheels been off, balanced and put back on and 4 wheel alignment done.
Done 90 mins each way on the motorway over the last two days and not noticed any overheating.
It's frustrating to say the least.

You seem to do a lot of miles and it's been happening for a while, have you noticed the o/s rear wheel having more brake dust on it than the other side?

Not really noticed myself.
There was more dust than expected when Clive replaced the shoes.
Will have a look tomorrow if I get a chance.
