UK map of all off-road routes (free!)
Hi all, I've just finished making a website intending to show all off-road routes in the country.
It's very new and therefore very empty at the moment. I'm going to add what I can myself, but ideally other people will sign up and contribute routes for their area.
Edit: Seems all the other options (which I was unaware of!) are hidden behind membership fees. For now this one will be free, and will remain so unless it starts to get thousands of hits (the map providers for the site provide about 10,000 free tile renders per month, which is pretty generous and won't likely be exceeded any time soon)

Looks like a slick website, good luck with the project.
I presume you're aware of this one below. It might be a good reference point for you when it comes to building your dataset.
Out of interest what program did you use to create the website? I'm building a website at the moment, trying to learn WordPress.2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...

I discovered the bywaymap website only yesterday - slightly annoying as I thought I'd scoured enough on the internet already and found nothing - thought I was making something new! It will be a good point of reference for my own map anyway.
I wrote it using React and C#, on Visual Studio and VSCode. It's a bit more complicated than Wordpress, I've been doing it for years though

Don't use Bywaymap! It shows routes that have been closed by TROs and also misses out many legal UCRs. It is out of date and unreliable.
However, if you join either GLASS or ATUK, you'll get access to their mapping systems which show all of the legal routes and are kept up to date with user comments about each one including any closures, obstructions, narrow sections etc.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Agree was looking at the nearby routes by the initial map location and thought wow a great run over Denton Moor but the associated information would indicate not suitable for 4x4

Was not aware! Doesn't look very publicly accessible though? Can't find a way to see the map unless I want to pay £52 a year? It seems every green lane map is hidden behind membership fees for some reason. Have just found TW2 and it's the same (https://www.trailwise2.co.uk/). Same for ATUK.
Very cool anyway, if that map goes public then I might as well just delete mine!

bywaymap seems very limited, unless I'm missing something every point I click on just opens an OS map purchase for the selected map region on Amazon.

The membership fee you pay to join GLASS, ATUK or TRF includes access to their maps but also supports the organisation and their work to promote responsible use of the green lanes, fight closures, promote maintenance and resist the pressure from the likes of GLEAM and the Ramblers Association to prohibit access to the countryside to all except able bodied pedestrians.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Plus it also gives you a network. So I know that one of the trails is impassable due to a fallen tree, or that a few TROs, which should have been lifted on the 19th April, have being extended for another month.

Ah, makes sense.
Hope I'm not stepping on anybody's toes with this free/public map I'm trying to do here. To be honest it was just a personal project which I got a bit carried away with.
Going to try to get out and add more routes, although will likely be limited as new places get further and further away from where I live. The one thing I don't want to do is just look at an OS map and copy all the BOAT routes from it as I know some are restricted now, so will be trying to keep the map updates as 'manual' as possible, i.e. see it for myself, or from other people.

having issues logging in with google, if you can check the logs for just now. Looks like the callback isn't working

Ahh that's annoying. It's hard to diagnose this as most of the work is happening in the browser, so it can't log anything.
Is there an error message, or it silently fails without any feedback?
First suggestion: Try a different browser (for me it's working fine on Chrome, Firefox and Edge).
Second suggestion, if you're happy to look further into it, try the following:
- Open the website
- Open the dev tools by pressing F12 (or Cmd+Option+I on Mac)
- Go to the Console tab
- Attempt google login again, and see if any related error messages show in the console tab (Ignore "Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy policy would block the window.closed call.")
