MY is better than “57 reg” because we foreigners can’t keep track of when “57” license plates were issued

Basically the model yr can be 6 months or more previous to the calander. It just denotes when models were updated although it is possible to have had both sold at the same time.

Yeah, for D3/D4 look at the VIN, it’ll be something like something like SALLAAA545Axxxxxx. The bold part corresponds to the following:
5A = 2005
..
9A = 2009 (last D3)
AA = 2010 (first D4)
…
FA = 2015
GA = 2016 (last D4)
Sometimes, or in some countries, the model year and registration do not coincide on the same year. The reason is that if the vehicle isn’t registered it isn’t taxed (yet). The importer can keep the vehicles in the bonded warehouse/lot in the harbor until there is a certain buyer for it.

Sort of. Just to give you the example of my own car.Mine was registered at the end of Jun 2015 and is a MY2016 because it is an adblue model with and a few other updates that came with it. Car registered earlier in 2015 did not have those. It’s an EU6 model thank goodness. Gary
