Hi !
I'm experiencing a strange error, and i'd like to know if someone ever had this happening.
Since the cold weather arrived, the morning the car is in the house basement (aprox 10°c), i start it, and go to the train station, the temperature outside is aprox -2°c. After a few kilometers, the message "Engine System Default" appears.
On the opposite, if the car is already in the cold (-2°c), and i start it and drive it, i have no message coming.
Any idea ?

It is, frankly, almost impossible to give you an answer. It could be a number of things. However, the ECM should have stored a fault code relating to the message that you received. These fault codes a pretty specific when it comes to diagnosis, and should point the mechanic to the problem.
What is clear is that it isn't a critical fault, and seems to be temperature related, which narrows down the likely causes somewhat. Might be a temperature sensor problem, fuel fired heater failure or the like.
Sorry that it isn't possible to just give you an answer!

By the way, with cold weather, it appears that the automatic gear box is going higher in the rpm before changing the gear level.
any thought about that ?

I suspect that this is the result of the impact of low gearbox fluid temperatures. The gearbox contains a temperature sensor that works to keep the gearbox fluid at the optimum operating temperature. In cold weather this might well result in a difference in performance of the torque convertor - essentially replicating a partially slipping clutch, and hence the higher engine revs.

I have been noticed that at low temperatures my gearbox changes to higher gear at 3000rpm and when the system warms up after some drive it changes back to normal 2000rpm. My earlier car with auto gearbox did the same thing but only at temperatures below -25C. Now it has only been -5C at the lowest. So what happens when the temperature drops to the arctic level.
I have also been receiving these errors (transmission, system, engine, HDC, etc) on cold mornings after a half km drive. Several attempts have been made by the dealer to correct them but no success so far.

I had the same message just 5 km after leaving the dealer in my new car. Turned out to be the turbocharger, it took a week to replace it. Now the message is gone. Check my post: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1902

Be aware that the warning message covers a multitude of possible errors.
Clearly that experienced by Sam is not a duff turbocharger.
It is because of this that it is not possible to provide a diagnosis to an engine fault message without the benefit of some clear physical evidence or T4 interrogation.
