Schrader valve sorry haha - was told to check it was squirting fuel as part of checks

Are there any ways I can see if it’s sensor or crank with my gap tool before sending it away to mechanic please? I don’t want it to be presumed crank and end up stuck in garage trying to get it for scrap value and having a mare ideally like to know what I’m walking in to given the circumstances

Some things you can do.

Remove oil cap. Have someone crank the engine. See if cam turns. That will give confidence belt behind the cover is ok.

Search that full fault code on here and see what the conclusion was.

Sounds like it’s not too difficult for you to change sensor. You could have it done before you get to the front of the que at the garage.
Your local garages don’t seam very good.

One of the video above says remove front upper suspension arm. You may already know how to do that.

Or maybe others can tell you other ways.
Watch the 2 videos I gave above

I don't think that method will work for the D3 Pete, it does for the D4 3.0 and obviously the RRS 3.0, but with it's own set of complications.

Either way, it's a real pig to get the new sensor correctly into place never mind getting at the old one.
If the OP is going to go at this himself he's not going to win without a an endoscope, which can be had for small money from Amazon, eBay, et al.

Can't stress enough the importance of confirming the sensor is at fault before attempting this job.

If LR shoved the thing up their arxe it would be easier to get at. Laughing

Here’s a YouTube video of inside the oil filler cap when turning over

Somethings spinning! But parts not moving that it’s connected to

https://youtube.com/shorts/DEHqNV7eXhM?si=G3S--st_VeL8APk6

I did drive down a steep hill yesterday using hill descent and the engine was grinding loads maybe this is related. Sounded awful. But drove home fine and was left idle for ages too. Also was off-roading in deep sand maybe this was related maybe not.

Hopefully the video gives indication

That’s the cam clamp that’s not moving. Looks and sounds ok to me.

Professor. Any tips on how to prove it’s the sensor or not?

I guess you could look at live values tdv6 ENGINE SPEED and then crank it. See if you get 100 or more.

That should give an indication the crank sensor is doing something

Part of the problem Pete is the vague nature of that code because it could be interpreted as either a wiring fault or sensor failure. If it referred to signal plausibility, or range performance alone you might be justified in condemning the sensor. So with that in mind it could also be related to the CKP ring!

The sensor has a fly lead attached which connects to the loom via a small bracket on the block. It's possible there is an issue here at the connector. Or, sometimes the rubber bung covering the sensor in the block can go awol, and allow the fly lead to vibrate on the casting with obvious consequences.

You might see something in GAP "live values" when cranking to confirm it's actually doing something or not. But, I suppose the ultimate test is the resistance of the sensor via the PCM plug once the pins have been identified.

I will have a look at one over Xmas and see if I can offer anything further.

Enjoy your Christmas Lads. Thumbs Up

So first step check live values when starting. If 0
Then get under car.
Locate access hole!
Unplug connector and reconnect.
try restarting.

Given the ring needs the gearbox removing, a special tool to fit and a lot of experience to get right
Doing a parts cannon on changing sensor if it reads 0 on live value would be worth a go.

Remember you can't actually see the cavity where the sensor is located!! You need a endoscope or similar to see the sensor and it's location. So when removing, and more importantly when refitting you working blind unless you set up the scope to guide you via your phone or tablet

You can se the fly lead connector, and you can disconnect it, but if like me you have hands like a bunch of bananas it's going to be painful. Laughing

Cheers

I’ll do live value check tonight asap

Here’s a pick of the dash lights that come up. May give some idea

Is it just another coincidence it’s after the rear brakes were done and clock spring messed around with to fix the cc?

I do have an endoscope! What are you saying if I disconnect the sensor it will make the engine work potentially?

No

Just may have a poor connection and messing with it may just help. But unlikely.
But at least you will have found it

Ok thanks mate

I’ll do live values tomorrow now I can’t bare looking at the thing any longer today haha

And I’ll try to locate the plug behind the turbo oil inlet as per the video you sent with my endoscope - but I don’t have the gear to remove the top arm or the space where it’s situated

Hopefully the readings will give a better understanding of likelihood of being sensor or write off

Merry Christmas all and thanks for the support

Removing the top arm won't help!! Read the previous posts as that is the LR procedure is for D4 or RRS 3.0

I just did the live values, engine speed, view, and it stayed at zero (see screen shot)

Next up I’ll try get in the plug with the endoscope doubt I’ll be able to remove it though I’ll give it a try with what tools I have
