Range Rover style screen in a D4
I’ve been at it again, this time I wanted to fit a landscape style screen like this 2023 Range Rover
in my Discovery 4.It would mean substantial changes to the existing dashboard in the D4. I found the complete kit on a Chinese website and I’m sure some of you will have seen it.
After a question and answer session with the supplier I decided to give it a go and place the order.
Everything arrived in about ten days and I stripped out the old head unit,cd player, climate control and air ducting like this. I have done this so often it only takes me half an hour.
The new infotainment system will replace everything. I detached the smart key antenna from the cd frame and fixed it to the bodywork like this
The section of dashboard holding the humidity sensor is replaced and the sensor is swapped out like this
The audio is integrated into the fibre optic most using this decoder giving oem sound quality without having to plug in to the auxiliary.
The biggest issue is connecting the air flow from the blower to the new vent outlets on top of the new dash arrangement ,here are the adapters in place ready to fit the new unit.
This is the finished result and I think it looks really cool.
It’s complete with Range Rover style ac controls which support 4x4 info
I haven’t had time to check everything out yet but it all seems to work fine and it’s really smooth and responsive.
More pictures.
The oem reverse camera works and I intend to retrofit surround cameras next. It’s android 12,with the sc7862, 8 core,8+128gb
Let me know what you think.Andy

As you know I have fitted many different Tesla style units and most are happy with them but even though it’s early days this is on another level.

I have bought from them previously and no issues but beware that some suppliers make false claims about spec. I always make suppliers aware that I will use third party software to detect and anomalies.

Looks very interesting, I had one of the Tesla type screens but never got on with it and went back to the CarPlay using the OE screen.
I would still prefer if they kept some knobs, especially volume / on off one.
But one question, can you change the background colour of the lower screen from white to black, it seems to stand out a bit too much, thinking of winter time when majority of my driving is at night, worried that it would be too bright

looks very cool indeed
I see some cons of it as it is wider than std dash i bet it would kill my knee on longer drive and start button is dangerously exposed
but very cool idea

The climate screen goes into night mode when the lights come on and there is also a backlight dimmer.
The top screen has an eye comfort setting,I’m still finding new things every time I turn on.

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t see any issues here, I’m not even sure it’s bigger than the std dash.
My grandson is 188 centimetres (6’2’’) and has no problem with legroom.Again I don’t see any problems with the starter button position.

Andy,
Couple of questions
1- did you disconnect the vent extensions? From main unit and fit them.
2- did you have any issues with the audio. I ask as I have one. And cannot get audio to work not a peep out of it.
3- that red screen you have what app did you create that with?2016 D4 Landmark

Hi Ian,yes I disconnected the blower adapters from the main unit and pushed them in the car ducts first and they worked fine.
Your audio issues are probably related to the fiber optic cables. The MOST plug which came from the rear of the dvd player must be fitted with a plug loop bypass which came with the kit.The other fiber optic plug which was fitted to the old display screen must be fitted to the blue box decoder.
The red screen in my photo is the Agama launcher, you can download it from play store, very user friendly and configurable.
I have nothing negative to say about mine,it’s fantastic.

Glad to see it is settling in well.
Would have been great if they could have put a volume know in the spare circular blank on the left.
Forgive me for saying it, but there is a hint of Landcruiser from it - not necessarily a bad thing but would have preferred to keep the normal AC controls - is there an option for just the large upper screen without the touchscreen lower level?

Looks great and definitely something I am considering at the moment.
Does it support the old Oem functions or are they all replaced?
I see that the 4x4 info and reverse camera are there but how about DAB?
Anything you miss?
Does the screen sitting slightly lower bother you or is it even noticeable?
