My comment was tongue in cheek actually.
Even with the extended seat rails that you can buy, I can’t fit in one to safely drive, let alone be comfortable.
They are endearing and nostalgic etc. in that they really have changed very little over the years, hence why they feel horrendous to drive in comparison to contemporary vehicles.
I do believe that they are an iconic vehicle in many ways. As a classic fun vehicle to work on yourself and enjoy for fun journeys, or used as they were originally designed to be, they are brilliant.
I know lots of farmers who still run them daily, but almost all of them will use another vehicle if they have to make a long road journey. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Re: farmers, one of my acquaintance has a Kubota for going around pheasants, checking sheep, etc., a 90 for towing a livestock trailer, a small trailer on shoot days, etc., and a Hyundai SUV thing for normal driving.

They were originally designed as an agricultural/workhorse vehicle. One of the very first pieces of optional equipment available for the Series Land Rover was the rear PTO.
As they evolved so little, comparisons with contemporary vehicles such as pickups is a bit pointless, in my opinion.
If they suit your needs/requirements and you like them…………

Such a variety of vehicles is common on most of the farms I visit.
I did witness a brand new FFRR towing a livestock trailer this week though. For the very reason that the farmer had a 250 round trip to make to collect a couple of Rams and he wasn’t going to do that in his 90. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

When I was young, I shared the driving with a mate as we took a Series 2 to Germany. It was fun then but we drove with the canvas off and it was fun. I'm older and more sensible these days.
I drive the 90 on shoot days now and then, and for a few minutes it's doable. But I've seen people in suits commuting along motorways in them and that is just beyond my ken. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

When I first started driving in 1981, Land Rovers weren’t so archaic.
Back then, if you had electric front windows, a cigarette lighter and a “stereo”
radio/cassette player (which my Austin Maxi did) it was revolutionary.
I had to use a manual choke, until I got my first Vauxhall Astra.
And that’s my point, the Defender barely evolved at all. Which is what appeals to its fans.

Cheers. I still use my 2a regularly - in fact I’m currently building a replacement engine for her! 28 years and I still enjoy it a lot. It’s very satisfying to drive smoothly. Once you have cracked the double de-clutch and the non synchro gears, it becomes a symphony of mechanical perfection! On the other hand, it’s staying put today, it’s too bloomin cold 🥶

It was a toss up between a Deepender and a Disco as the tug for the van.
I was tending to the former, somehow I could work out the boss' opininion without even asking! A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

They are iconic and characterful but by the time I’ve finished driving one the novelty has most definitely worn off.
