Measuring coolant strength
Having just replaced the coolant expansion tank, coolant issues are to the fore.
I read that the traditional hydrometers do not work for OAT antifreeze. What should we use to measure the specific density of the antifreeze/coolant? I'm guessing a refractometer here.
Although I know that the car requires 50% dilution of Castrol SF which provides protection down to -40C I have no idea what the dilution of the current coolant is.
Once I have measured the density, what is the correlation between the density and the boiling and freezing points?D1 300Tdi - gone
D2 Td5 ES (Alive remapped...mmm) - sadly gone

IMO if the coolant is years old anyways, would be a good idea to replace / flush all the coolant.
this is a good video on the refractometer
