Lowline system removal
Can anyone one tell me what would be the out come of totally removing the low line system.
Reason for it being you can't install a double din unit with the amp and screen fitted there is non that I've found aftermarket conversion kits which all seem to be for the high line system so If I just dump the lot would there be other issues arising from doing this. Ive seen the threads that have upgraded to the high line system but being LR navigation is not the best going from reports on here I would really like to do my own install

I’d say the low line would be easy mod to do this to on a D4 but not sure where you would put double Din?
There is no fibre optics to worry about (or amp if real poverty spec like my GS before I updated to highline) so should be straightforward.

Thanks for the reply Famous Five the kit that I have already is:
Garmin navi plus for the sat nav and a Kenwood DDX5016 dab+ head unit wired in using a Connects 2 CTKLR10 installation kit Kenwood speakers x6, sub and amp.
Not sure on fitting the sub as yet as its a lot bigger than the original LR one (as in deeper) and the lower tail gate cover would need cutting, also there is the Dog to consider.
The Double din will go in place of the original stereo interface as most know this will require some cutting of the dash (I have a spare if I need to return it back to factory spec).
I'm now waiting for the Connents2 kit to arrive then I can get it sorted getting pretty bored with CFM (other radio stations are available but just as boring) now D4 GS let the retro fit begin

Hi BR,
The biggest issue will be that the date and time will no longer be provided by the factory head unit. Meaning when you have a DTC occur, there will be no record of when. This could make diagnostic investigations a lot harder.
Depending on your year model, there is a kit from Connects2 which interfaces from the aftermarket to your Disco. MY10-11 are not yet catered for.
Cheers,
Rob

Yes this is correct but if it fails going to work I'll plug it in when I get there I have sort of sussed out the wiring now I used the connector plug from CN2LR20 kit
used for defenders and 2009 Discovery 4s depinned it and then rewired it to the LR10 kit just to cold and miserable to be pulling the interior out to check it works.

Just an update for this thread. The last problem I had with this install was even after using my connects2 I still didn't have steering wheel controls and not being a fan of useless buttons I decided to shelve it for a bit until a solution could be found, which happened to be there all along.
The head unit I was using has a plug for SWC and the connects2 should plug in and work but no, so after tracing the signal wires for the SWCs and getting a SWC cable for the head unit it turned into a simple solution cut the wires into the connects2 box and solder the plug on and plug into the head unit.
