'Water in Fuel'
Has anyone else had this information message.
I can figure out what it means, but I can't understand why I have it. Is it a known 'glitch' or have Esso actually been increasing the water in my fuel and charging me £1.15 a litre for the benefit?
Anyone help me here??

Sounds like you need to change the fuel filter & ISTR there's a drain somewhere to let out the water?Bodsys Brake Bible

Depends on which service, they prob wouldn't have changed it. Have you filled up in some country yokel garage that's had the fuel sitting around for a year.....?Bodsys Brake Bible

Umpteen visits to Esso in Edinburgh and a Shell in Aberdeen thrown in the middle. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. It wasn't even raining the last time I filled up!07 plate TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

Fuel filter can be drained, if you look at picture below the black knob on the bottom of the filter can be loosened to release the contents into a bottle, beware of pressure, the fuel filter can only hold so much water back so attention is needed ASAP. The water can damage the high pressure pumps/seals and injectors as badly as running petrol throught them.
If you drain the filter into a bottle you can get an idea of how much water there is.
