ABS brake bleed - pump vibrates RHS only |
|
Hello
Carried out a brake bleed and did an ABS brake bleed using icarsoft obd.
The sequence was odd ( left rear, left front, right front then right rear).
Normally I'd brake bleed with my kit left rear right rear left front right front.
The fluid was clear and no bubbles. The left side bleed produced no noises from the abs pump. The right side, however, caused the abs pump to vibrate when selecting ok - I've bleed that side, ready to moven on to next caliper.
Would I not expect same behaviour (vibration, or not, from each caliper?) Can a pump half fail? I know on other cars a fault on ABS sensor will deactivate ABS and even during normal braking the braking was poorer.
I've done this 2 weeks later and got same result.
Brakes were slightly better after bleeding, less travel down foot pedal.
No leaks on brake pipes, joints and reservoir been at same level
Had a u415 abs control module invalid data error.
Nothing on dash. MOT passed since Flexi hoses changed.

My D3 is the same (but without any error codes)! I was presuming that there is a cross-ways split to the brake circuits (ie front left/back right and vice-versa) so there was only need for the ABS to bleed once on each circuit and it does this on the second of each circuit to be bled? But I may just be inventing justifications for a knackered ABS module! Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

Thanks Worms
So you think the ABS module is opening once per brake circuit?
This topic came up before on this site when I searched but no-one really answered it. The behaviour of the noisy ABS pump on the Right hand side front and rear right brakes was exactly the same.
So I guess normal behaviour.
There are no Obd DTCs now. Well worth using DOT4 ESP - I don't know why DOT4 non ESP is sold (don't all cars have ESP?)
I replaced the Flexi pipes a couple of years ago and the trick is to brim the brake fluid reservoir and use cling film/bag to seal lid when screwing it back down. Cracking brake line open results in no fluid wash. The Disco4 has a brake fluid sensor in lid - it can be removed or just use another solid lid from another car.
Cheers
