Who's going to crack 1st?

Just waiting for the 1st 'FBH not working' post in 2023. Anyone else as excited as me to see who drops it in 1st?

- Existing member or new account?
- England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland or Offshore?
- Will 1st helpful response be "Is your low fuel warning light on?"
- Guess the date for 1st post - I'm going 21st October

Laughing

Ukraine

Not from me for 2 reasons.

A) I don’t have a FBH.

B) It was about +34c today and won’t get down below +26c. Whistle

You'll need a FBH in Wales beings you'll be driving at 20mph and not able to heat the coolant with the engine Laughing

Haha - I don't think I've gone above 20mph across town for a couple of years to be honest so doesn't make much difference to me Whistle

Highly likely one has already been made! -although I can't find one, 2023 started in Jan not September Laughing

It will when others won't,

This will be my first winter with the D3 - as far as I know the FBH is operational but I am kind of wondering what to be looking for and what to expect! Funny to see this post.

So if all works well then the FBH will operate once outside temp is <5 degrees assuming the low fuel warning light isn't on. You'll see smoke coming out of the nearside wheel arch as that's where the FBH exhaust is. Once working, it should help the car reach operating temperature more quickly and therefore run more efficiently.

With my D3, the FBH wasn't working when I bought it. No error messages or engine mgmt lights or anything to say it wasn't working. Just the fact that once temps got near freezing or below, the engine simply wouldn't get warm at all in city driving. In fact, I used to drive my daughter to nursery in stop/start traffic for about 15 mins each way and return home with the temp gauge hardly off stone cold. This of course meant that the cabin heater was useless so we were cold inside the car.

For me, I eventually wired a CAN BUS wire as described in the FBH Wiki pages on this forum and connected it to my laptop using the Webasto software to run some diagnostics. Essentially it was all caked up and wouldn't fire up. I just kept trying and eventually it went into full ignition with some crazy amounts of smoke bellowing out (sorry neighbours!!) and I just ran through a few ignition/burn cycles until it burnt clean. It now starts up 1st time when the car asks for it but no doubt this winter it might need another manual push or two as it's obviously layed dormant since the last cold snap.

One slight complication for me was that whilst I was running the initial diagnostics. I got the thing running a full cycle and then BANG....something popped and my suspension dropped. I completely shat myself and imagined the many thousands of pounds damage I'd caused. Turned out that my FBH exhaust had corroded and the exhaust gas was escaping right next to one of the suspension airlines. The airline melted which rapidly deflated the suspension. Thankfully, this was relatively easily fixed and suspect that it's not too common although another forum member has also experienced the same thing.
