So I am having an ongoin issue with my drivers side rear disc getting excessively hot!
20 min journey and at the end of it the disc will sizzle like an iron if you spit on it.
Had it in the local garage three times now.
New discs, pads and calipers on the rear both sides.
New flexible brake hoses both sides.
New tyres all round.
Had the rear prop shaft replaced after Bodsy foun d it had destroyed the central bearing.
Bodsy has flushed and changed fluids in Gearbox, transfer box and diff.
Local garage is now suggesting that the ABS pump might need replacing.
Any helpful ideas before I keep spending money with a garage that doesn't know what the cause is?
May be unrelated but I have the following issues that I feel need attention.
The car pulls slightly to the left.
I am getting a vibration through the steering wheel at higher speeds although not always.
Car feels very rough over the road where I would expect it to be a much smoother ride.
Getting lots of rattles and clunks from the back end that I wouldnt normally expect.
For reference I have recently sold my 2012 D4 HSE and bought a 2014 D£ so ride and noixe levels are a comparison of the two.

Are you sure it is the disc part overheating or the hand brake drum part in the centre?
When the area is hot is the brake caliper hot as well, if not it may be a badly adjusted hand brake.
I have had a hand brake not release properly causing a similar problem. Disco 4

Hi Sailormike,
Not noticed to be honest. Thanks. Will look for that next drive!!
Would hope that the garage would have checked that when they initially did the discs, calipers and pads and again when they stripped. re lubed and refitted them when the issue remained. Was told that included a handbrake adjustment.
It does make me doubt their skills, (however unfair that may be).

I'd try a different garage and one recommended on here if I were you.. assuming the one you are currently using is not? Jim

If the brake shoes on the hand brake have not been centralised and adjusted as per Bodsy’s brake Bible* they will overheat.

Just got back from a 20 min drive, (mainly country roads and a mix of 60, 40 and 30 limits.
Disc hot enough to sizzle when you splash it!
Caliperwarm enough to comfortably touch so assume just radiated heat from the disc.

Obviously a sticking caliper or park brake wrongly adjusted!- chock the wheels, jack the wheel up put the gears into neutral park brake off and see if the wheel will turn.
Read Bodseys Bible on how to adjust the park brake it’s easy enough to do you only need an Alen key and a flat blade screwdriver. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,

Having just been through similar...
I had checked the adjustment of handbrake shoes, and all appeared ok, but still the problem.
Removed the park brake shoes to replace them, and found that the lever arm on back of shoe was siezed. You wouldn't know without fully stripping it. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Dropped Bodsy a message to see if he would be in the area anytime soon, He recommended Clive who came this evening and has just left! Handbrake shoes replaced and a quick tidy around.
Great fella and a stroke of luck he was free and not too far away!!!
He did mention that the brake pipes are looking a little crusty and could do with replacing soon.
Fingers crossed!!

Hi Nigethecat,
Literally just had both sides stripped, cleaned, checked, new handbrake shoes, and adjusted by Clive from CDS4x4 last night.
He said all seemed in order although there was a lot of brake dust from the handbrake shoes.
Could this be anything other than brake related?
Bearing, Drive shaft, Diff etc?

I'd have said flexible hoses - they can fail in one-way-valve mode - but you say they've all been done? .
