Howto: Dr Tranny

Lot of Dr Tranny users on the forum and it should be an easy thing to add the magic stuff to the gearbox oil. I did some reading and maybe it has something to do with me but it's still not clear to me what is the best/easiest option to add a tube of Dr Tranny to the ATF.
I bought 2 tubes but I would like to start adding 1 and see the result.

1. Is is ok just to add the small amount of fluid (59ml/2fl oz) to the gearbox without sucking 59ml out first, maybe a little overfilled afterwards?

2. Where do I add it: filler opening of gearbox under the car or at the cooler hose under the hood?

First option: filler input under the car (picture taken from the right side of the car)

If done this way, should the engine be running to keep the oil level low?



2nd option: cooler hose, is it this one?

Off coarse it is clear the engine should NOT be running using this option.

Either - if via GBox, yes must have engine running, no need to lower the levels first.

If via hose, best to syringe an equivalent amount out first else you'll find it wil take a couple of hours to get the whole dose in.

Did mine via the fill point as per first option - engine as Steve has said, must be running. As the fill level is also this hole, I had the car jacked up on the one side so I was sure it all went in and didn't fall out again. Thumbs Up

Ok, so the first option looks preferable.

One last question: did someone have problems or worse behaviour after adding Dr Tranny?

In short - NO Laughing

Before Dr. T, I had judders and TC slip. Mega Flush sorted the judder but not the TC slip, added Dr. T and it is all sorted. That was some 18 months or so ago now - 1500 mile round trip to France with the 'tin tent' in their too Whistle

Ok, done. Took me 3 days! Razz
No not really, I'll post my experiences here to keep the 'how to' updated.
First tried to open de fill opening at the box. I didn't have a real 8mm tool so tried that with a bit (I'm not sure if that's a good English word, I mean that thing you can put in an electric screwdriver). It wasn't the good tool for that, because it didn't want to open easily I broke this bit. Evil or Very Mad
Then went for the 2nd option: the cooler hose. Was easy to disconnect and easy to reach to get the Dr Tranny in, but as mentioned above it takes hours to get the hole tube in there. I found a tube that fits in the original tube and tried to blow it to get some space, it did help a little but after half an hour I got less then a quarter out of the Tranny tube so started to think of another solution. Also my mouth was starting to hurt from blowing. Whistle And I realised this blowing could get moisture in the box ...
Went to my neighbour and got a real 8mm L-tool. Now I succeeded in opening the box. Did start the car and put it in neutral to lower the fluid level but after opening it still poured out fluid. Not just a few drips, so closed up again and drove the car of the ramps on the left side. With the car sloping it was easy to get the hole tube in. I kept the motor running but maybe this wasn't necessary anymore.

Happy me because the Dr Tranny finally ended up where it should and happy with the result. Took it for a test drive and you feel the difference: less judder, better shifting and less slipping, it just feels newer... Thumbs Up

Kept the 2nd tube as spare in case I get judder en slip again because I can't believe this will last forever. Keep you updated when I've done some extra miles.

I have 158000km now.

Quick update as promised, I have 163000km now, 5000km after adding Dr. Tranny.
Still no regrets adding the Tranny. Judder came back a little bit, but the slipping is still ok, minor (I guess normal for an auto box) slipping since adding the Dr. Tranny.
So overall I'm happy with the result and I think I will add the 2nd tube before our big trip during summer holidays.

Do it at the cooler but not the hose. I assume the hose has a valve in it that stops/slows the fluid flowing back down the hose. No such problem with the cooler itself. Take the hose off the cooler keep it raised get a small piece of spare hose on the cooler pipe and add dr.t straight to the cooler. Goes straight in as quick as you can empty the tube. Put the cooler hose back. Job done. 2 minutes!

Nice, going to try this method for the 2nd tube sometime in the coming weeks.
