Resolved Power Loss Issue on Highway with Smoke Test |
|
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share a recent experience with my 2012 LR4 3.0 SDV6, hoping it might assist someone facing similar challenges.
Symptoms:
-On highways, especially uphill or under load, the car would suddenly lose power around 130 km/h.
-The speed would then drop to around 80-90 km/h before the vehicle regained power.
-This would happen intermittently, with no warning lights or error codes.
Initially, suspecting the fuel system, I replaced the fuel filter. However, the problem persisted.
Then, I conducted a smoke test. This revealed a leak coming from the throttle body connection. I noticed that the connection metal wire had become disassembled somehow (probably due to heat or done by mistake in maintenance). Furthermore, there was also an oil leak in the same area.
Even though the throttle body O-ring was in good shape, to prevent any future issues, I'm planning to replace the O-ring set during the next maintenance.
After addressing the throttle body issue, plugging in parts correctly, the power loss problem ceased.
For those encountering similar power losses on the highway, a smoke test might be a valuable tool in pinpointing any unseen leaks, especially around the throttle body and especially if there are no error codes. I used liquÄħid vaporizer.
