It is !! It is only applicable to 4wd vehicles up to 2040 kg unladen weight. that law was brought in to allow some double cab pick ups get around the speeding rules even most ford Rangers and VW pickups fail on this point although they are very slow informing you when you buy one. Know several friends who have been caught out .

So it was new car day yesterday! What an exciting day it was and SO nice to be back in a LR, the seating position is un-equalled in my eyes.

Trip to work this morning at 5am was wonderful, quiet, comfortable, warm and super relaxing. Will set up a thread to document my purchase with a few pics and chart my ownership journey or those interested in the relevant area.

Cheers

Si

Thanks Rog - it’s a lovely vehicle and seemingly had an AWFUL lot of extras thrown at it when new including - folding mirrors, reverse cam, Meridian audio, heated steering wheel, fridge, arm rests, Landmark alloys and probably a few more!

Really pleased with it and straight into work tomorrow towing my daughters horsebox to camp for the weekend which I am sure it will do with ease Mr. Green

***UPDATE***
So the car is lovely and been put straight to work which it has done without breaking a sweat, I have encountered a problem though - insurance!

I wanted to move it to NFU as we have other items insured with them and been very pleased with service however they want installation certificate for rear seats, I don’t have this or in fact any documentation relating to the rear seat install. They say that it’s listed as a 2 seat vehicle and the addition of a rear bench needs to have been carried out properly (totally get this) however I don’t know how/where to get the relevant information.

The amount of people out there putting seats in the back of VW Transporters and Ford Transits must be huge changing them from a a 2/3 seater to a 5/6 but how do I get round this issue or who does anyone recommend for insurance?

Cheers

Si

The Discovery commercial that I just sold, was insured by Post Office van insurance for the last four years. Just completed the online form stating five seat van. That was accepted.
Cannot recall who it was with before then?

They were very reasonable on price too.

The conversion to 5 seats needs to be certificated by the installer to be legal . It is a requirement by HMRC and VOSA . The NFU are correct and the post office seem to be missing this point ,if you are stopped for a check technically your insurance is void without that certificate as it is not legal under construction and use rules . Perhaps something those who put in seats themselves choose to ignore!!

Has the OP considered there are a limited number of companies that may have fitted them if they were legally added ,maybe a call around to them with your reg number as they will have to have kept records of it.

Rightly, wrongly or indifferently.
Mine had genuine Land Rover seats fitted to the fixings that are built into the vehicle when it was new.
It passed six MOTs in this configuration and the vat issues were not relevant as when I took the vehicle on I had to take the vat hit. So nothing to concern the revenue.

It worked fine for my needs and probably as is usual for me I was wrong again.
