Car won't start without air conditioning controls plugged in

Hi all. Doing some audio tinkering I tried turning the car on to run a quick test - I had the 2 panels in the centre console unplugged - audio and air conditioning. Engine would not turn on, no new faults reported on screen. I think I missed a heartbeat there. Fortunately, as soon as I reconnected the climate panel, engine started fine.

My question is - why?

ISTR the canbus runs through the AC controls. No AC unit = no CANBUS = no running.

I may be wrong, it has been known. Alegedly. Whistle

Derek is correct (this time Laughing )

HVAC is part of the HS CAN network. When that goes down, the car won't start Thumbs Up

Thanks. I was reading the wiring diagrams and they do mention the ECM but it's not clear to what end, other than the coolant temperature which I did not know was related to the ac.

In any case it's good to know. Random thing to be aware of.

From what described in the "module communication section", the HVAC is part of the "medium speed" communication network (not the High speed where the Engine Control Module resides), so IMHO the issue is not related to CAN communication, but surely someone will explain it better than me Wink

No climate control around High Speed Can Neutral

Medium and High Speed cans are wired separated...

There is a good chance I missed it, between Messanger, our FB business page, emails, texts, WhatsApps, and this very forum, it's a struggle keeping up with it all Laughing

Feel free to ping another message over, I'll keep an eye out for it Thumbs Up
