Paddle shift on D3 with D4 steering wheel
Hi guys,
i just wanted to share how i "enabled/added" paddleshift on my D3 with a D4 steering wheel. I got the Fritjof Dittner PCB's in my D4 steering wheel.

On the connector C2658 on the gear selector you can see pin 5 and 6 is shift up/down in SPORT/MANUAL mode.
I made a loom for easy testing of gear shifting:
Pin 5(yellow/upshift) and 6(brown/downshift)
De-pinned and made a loom with gear up/down and 12V and GND. You dont need 12V/GND in this loom, but was convinient for testing.
I did remove isolation from the wires about 7cm from the pin, and soldered wires and crimped a JST connector at the end.
After some testing i found that the signals are pulled high in the TCM, and with a 100Ω resistor i could pull the signal to ground and make the gear shifting.
The paddles on the D4 steering wheel is 2.7KΩ when open circuit and 560Ω when paddle is pressed. So i had to remove two resistors(2,2KΩ marked 222 and 560Ω marked 561) and solder in a 100Ω resistor(replaced with the 560Ω resistor and the 2,2KΩ is removed) in each paddle.
De-pin hinge and remove PCB. A norwegian KRONE as reference would not do you guys any good, but there is very small resistors
Because i have the Fritjof Dittner PCB's in my D4 steering wheel, there is no signals from or to the paddleshifter. Just 12V and GND for the LED. I have installed the D4 clock spring which got beefier connector for heating, so i removed pin 3(black/GND) and pin 7(purple/12V) from the 8 pin connector from the steering wheel loom, to the clock spring. I now have spare pins in my connector for up/down signal. Pin 8 was never used, so i went for pin 7 and 8. This signals are routed from the car side of the clock spring to the 4 pin(should be 2pin) connector i spliced from the gear selector.
New clock spring with 3 connectors:
De-pinned pin 7 on the "car side" of the clock spring and inserted pins for the gear up/down signals(pin 7 and 8) which are routed to the new loom from the gear selector.
The power comes through this plug now:
New wiring loom in the steering wheel, pin 7 and 8 on the white connector are now the up/down signals:
Pin 2 and 3 on the 4 pin connector for the paddleshift on the Fritjof Dittner PCB er de-pinned and signals are routed directly to the 8 pin connector instead.

Does the selector need to be in sport/manual for them to work ?

Yes, it needs to be in SPORT/MANUAL mode for them to work.
